Nice Little Drive
Silent running, and works fine with my Powerbook G4 laptop using the firewire connection. There's no need for an external power supply. I have OSX Leopard on my laptop, and wanted a drive big enough to use Time Machine with. I also wanted an external drive which could hold an alternative earlier version of OSX System software to startup from for certain applications I run, plus give me plenty of space for archiving other stuff. I simply partitioned this drive into 3, and it runs beautifully.
I've only knocked a star off because the shortness of the built in connection-lead means that the drive ends up being upside-down, which aesthetically doesn't look right.
Looks cool and does the business!
This drive suites my needs really well i can use between work and home. The rugged enclosure gives me peace of mind when i put it in my jacket pockets or throw it on the passenger seat on the way to work. The stylish design looks good against both PC and MAC. Good value for a 250gb mobile drive, worth a few pounds more for a drive that is protected well comes with good onboard software (not often you find the free software any use).
I've already recommended Freecom products to a number of my friends and co-workers.
Fast, silent, USB & Firewire
Looks great, silent running.
White rubber does look protective although i havent tested the manufacturers
claim that this drive can withstand a drop of 2m onto a flat surface without disk damage.
Formatted it as HFS+ on my mac (it comes FAT32 of course) and it copied individual file
over 4GB no probs.
Built in firewire cable is genius, really perfect for firewire conections to laptops
- have only knocked a star off because it's short length means you'll have to find something
the same height as your firewire port to rest it on or use a firewire extension cable when
connecting to a desktop machine.
It comes with a usb cable - regular length so there's no reason why you should ever need
to buy a power supply for it (it seems to have a power port - can't think why)
Only got it recently so can't vouch for longevity.
If i could have given this 4.5 stars i would have.
