DOUBLE BASS DRUM HEAVEN/HELL!!! (Review ONLY for Ticket To Mayhem!)
Have to say I haven't got this twin album CD, but somewhere (in the loft) with all my old vinyl, I do have the Ticket To Mayhem album. I can't speak for Power and Pain as I haven't heard it.
As I can remember, TTM was VERY heavy in a kind of Motorhead meets Slayer way. The production was clear, and I distinctly remember that the drumming was stunning, absolute layers of double bass drumming that hammered throughout! (something about Atlanta Is Burning Down comes to mind). It wasn't a clicky sound like And Justice For All's bass drum - it was very hard and loud. The vocals were quite hoarse and lyrics were fairly Slayer like. Can't remember too much about the guitar or bass work.
I wouldn't buy this myself on CD (because my tastes are a bit more diverse now) but with the recent Thrash renaissance being underway, it would probably appeal to the new generation of Thashers, Moshers & Skankers! I know I liked TTM some 20 years ago, when I was about 20.
By the way, what an APPALLING cover art on this CD - don't let that put you off.
