Colour calibration at its best5
This is not just a tool for photographers, anybody who uses a computer to produce digital works should consider using one. I design and build websites and software, the colours I see on my screen are not neseceraly what can be seen on the end users, by using the Spyder to calibrate my monitor I can work in the knowledge that atleast what I see is what should be seen on another machine if it were also calibrated.

The elite version of the Spyder3 uses the same colorimeter as the Pro version but has an enhanced version of the softawre allowing mulitple monitors to be calibrated to the same target providing a consistant enviroment for a team. If you need more than just one machine to be calibrated then chose this version otherwise the pro (Spyder 3 Pro (PC/Mac)) is just as good for a little less money.

The solution itself consists of some software and a usb colorimeter, the colorimeter is used to measure the output of the screen. The software then can create a custom colour profile for your display. The whole process can take between 10 and 30 minuites dependent upon your pc.

The colorimeter can be left plugged in sitting in a desktop cradle and will continually moniter the ambient light levels and provide an alert if you need to recalibrate your display.

Overall a very usefull addition for anybody working with digital images.

Indispensable !5
This is an incredible tool. I have a multi monitor set up and for the first time I am able to get seamless colour transition between the screens. As a bonus, an older, but very high quality screen that I had which was tending to be rather yellow and proving very difficult to obtain a colour balance has now been accurately profiled.

Straightforward and simple to use, it literally 'does what it says on the box'

An absolute "must have" for anyone involved in digital imaging.

Simple and effective5
Got my Spyder this morning and I'm pretty impressed. I bought it in the hope of solving a serious problem with the screen on my MacBook Pro (The screen is, by default, way too light, and attempts to recalibrate it by hand using the Mac's own calibration utility and the 3rd-party SuperCal utility resulted in excessive contrast and severe colour casts, making it basically unusable for colour work).

Basically, the Spyder paid for itself in five minutes - after one quick-and dirty calibration, the MacBook screen is now perfectly usable. Having calibrated the desktop monitor too, there's a tiny difference in colour temperature between the two machines, but they're perfectly usable as is, and the software has plenty of options to let me fine-tune later on.

Pros: Does the job straight out of the box without me even having to read the instructions (though I'm sure I'd have got slightly better results if I had)

Cons: When first activated, the Spyder software installer looks for older versions of the software to update - trouble is, on one of my machines the text explaining this was in (I think) Chinese(!), leaving me a little in doubt as to how to proceed...

Number of swearing-minutes to set up: One, because of the Chinese dialog box, none in setting up or running the software/hardware.
