Customer Reviews

Great idea, well executed but slightly expensive.4
This is a super piece of kit, and well thought out. It will make a great addition to most photgraphers' already over-stuffed gadget bags. Only really suitable for situations which you intend to shoot in a pre-determined way rather than ad-hoc photography, but when shooting in all but perfect light conditions, it provides a valuable aid to white balance. More than that however, it gives white, grey and black points which help very well in setting contrast, as well as specular highlight and absolute black. All from a single test shot. I shoot RAW almost exclusively, and having a setup shot giving all this information at the start of a sequence is incredibly useful. When using Lightroom, you can apply the same corrections across a whole series of shots. The unit is well made, very well designed and robust, and has moulded-in colours rather than paint, so it shouldn't wear out in a hurry. If I have any reservations, it's only the rather steep price. For a moulded piece of plastic with a couple of attachments which probably costs just a few pounds to manufacture, it is very highly priced. The price in the US is almost a dollar for a pound at the time of writing, showing that we in the UK are getting the rough end of the deal, but then this is a specialist device with a limited sales appeal, so distribution costs will inevitably play a part. Overall - recommended.
