Product Description

Baby-naming seems to have become a competitive sport among celebrities, and with everyone from Gywneth Paltrow & Chris Martin to supermodel Heidi Klum & Formula One boss Flavio Briator currently expecting, a baby with a cool name is this year's hottest accessory. We've had everything from Carys to Ryder to Daisy in recent months but how are we mere mortals to catch on to the trend without our children all ending up being called Britney?

Although, according to the National Office of Statistics, traditional names Jack and Emily were the most popular names of 2003, celebrities are now influencing not only our taste in clothes and hair, but now in baby-naming too! Alfie has risen to 18th place in the rankings no doubt due to his loveable namesake's popularity in Eastenders, yet Jade has slid down to 77th, perhaps due to Miss Goody's declining career?

COOL NAMES FOR BABIES is the only guide available that gives parents an array of names with real individuality. Not only does it list all today's popular choices plus the best celebrity names and their offspring's monikers, but it shows you how to source names from the past, from art, place names, literature, colours, nature and even from rap artists and video games!

So make sure your baby's name is as unique and inimitable as she/he is, while making sure you're as hip as any celebrity with Collins COOL NAMES FOR BABIES!

Synopsis
This is the up-to-the-minute word on what's hot and what's not in baby names. Every new parent faces the dilemma of what to call their baby - should you stick to something traditional? Or come up with something unfamiliar? Since its first publication in 2004, "Cool Names for Babies" has become the last word in what names are cool and how to choose one for your child. This latest edition is packed with up-to-date info on today's most popular choices, as well as the most recent offerings from the celebrity name game. In addition, "Cool Names for Babies" suggests how you can use your imagination and source names from the past, from art, place names, literature, colours, nature, the music scene, and even video games! How about taking Gwyneth Paltrow's fruit name route, but opting for something a little more exotic, such as Papaya or Tamarillo? Or why not try revamping a more common name by adding an extra letter so that Amos becomes Ramos? Or, as Jordan soars in popularity, how about going for another river such as Amazon or Seine? More and more parents are looking for unusual and individual ideas, which are not catered for in traditional babies' names books, this is the title for them.

It's fun; it's informative; and it's packed with inspiration. Chapters cover: Mainstream names, Famous names, Old names, and Creative names.

Customer Reviews

Not so cool1
I advise anybody looking for a good baby name book not to buy this one.

Excellent!5
Very good for stimulating creative thought about unique baby names. Unfortunately, most of the 'cool' names will have already been taken...

Such a good read4
also for people which are not pregnant - like me.
I bought this book as a pressie (I saw it whilst browsing the shop) for a pregnant couple who are desperately looking for an interesting name to give to their baby boy.
Before giving it to them I was too curious to lay it down.
It gives you quite some background information about the theory of coolness of names and baby names in particular.
The different sections make the book a good reference.

I can definitely recommend it. The price isn't too high either, so it's worth buying!
