Customer Reviews

Crummy1
This is an extremely poor quality item. Many of the films aren't even framed well enough to play on an old TV. Several films are so badly cropped that the heads and feet of the people on the screen are completely chopped off.

Charlie spends a lot of the time on the edge of the frame while the activity in the background takes the stage. At these times he's often completely invisable and it's almost impossible to see how and why he's interacting with the other actors.

The documentary is also generic and totally uninspiring, with a large part of its beginning been given over to a description of London. For a time I thought they'd put the wrong documantary on the disc, and given the quality of the edit it wouldn't have surprised me in the least.

It's a shame that in their compilation films which such historical value could be so badly butchered. I can only imagine the company in question didn't have the rights to the original material.

If you can buy it cheap and you love Chaplain, by all means pick up a copy, but being asked to pay full price for this collection, to be honest, is insulting.

This item should be a historical record as well as a worthwhile entertainment product in its own right, instead what's offered seems to have been haphazerdly thrown together from tapes for a T.V. format that time forgot (not having the full width of the screen is bad enough, because it really does seriously detract from the quality of the product, but the heads and feet being cut off in some of the films is just unforgivable).
