Editorial Reviews

From the Label
With 35 Million records sold worldwide, 7 Million in the UK alone, 12 UK Number 1’s--Westlife are back with their smash single "You Raise Me Up" and the follow-up second single with the legendary Diana Ross. Relaxed, refreshed and bursting with energy, Westlife, the quiet superstars of the mainstream UK music scene, bounce back with their new album Face To Face. It’s a world that they have dominated for seven years and the album features all the hallmarks of that reign--a collection of classic songs and future standards. In brief, Face To Face finds Westlife doing what they’ve always done best. After a brief interlude with their Rat Pack album of classic song sung in the style of Sinatra, Face To Face is Westlife’s first collection of new songs since Turnaround topped the charts in 2003. "It’s got the best material we’ve ever released", says Shane confidently. Agrees Nicky: "At the time Turnaround seemed like one of our best albums and this one feels even better". Song writing and production duties are equally divided between long-term collaborator Steve Mac and Swedish hit-makers The Location, returning to the Westlife fold after working on their first two albums (and for Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC among many others), with recording done in Ireland, Sweden and London over the long hot summer. Passion is very much the key to the opening single "You Raise Me Up", Shane singing the hymn-like refrain over a simple piano melody before Mark’s soaring vocal ushers in Kian and Nicky’s blissful harmonies. A slow builder, the song swells into a full-blown gospel epic complete with strings, celestial choirs and something entirely new for Westlife--bagpipes! "I really enjoyed singing it. I hope people find it inspiring", says Mark. "It’s an incredible song", adds Nicky. "I can see it becoming a favourite at weddings and funerals, like our first hit Swear It Again".

A new start and a new chapter… but the Westlife story is far from over.

CD Description
'Face To Face' is the seventh studio album from Westlife and their first as a four piece since the departure of Brian McFadden in March 2004. The album sticks to the winning formula that has graced their previous releases - a mix of contemporary adult pop and heartfelt ballads. Guest vocals also come from Mariah Carey and the legendary Diana Ross.

Another winner, but....4
Good to see the boys back on form after the brat pack album, but would like to see less covers and working with historic "has beens" (Diana Ross). On previous albums and b sides we have seen some interesting song writing by the boys start to emerge, which I thought were pretty good. Brian had a lot of influence here I think, but the management have push them back into covers and ballads - come on Cowell and Walsh there's plenty of room on a 80min CD.

Best tracks are "Amazing", "She's Back" and the last track "Maybe Tomorrow" which isn't on the international version?

Would like to hear Nicky and Kian more on the vocals as well. Nicky has a very distinctive voice that adds a lot of depth to the band and yet is is very rarely heard. I would have thought they would have shared the vocals more with Brian leaving, but sadly not.

A good album overall but would like to see an album of totally original new songs next time.

Westlife have got better5
Beforehand, I hated Westlife, they were just the same old boy band rubbish and with that awful Rat Pack compilation, I thought things couldn't get any worse. However they brought this out and the boys have changed themselves for the better, they've grown up and put together some lovely songs such as "You Raise Me Up" and "Amazing". I do recommend this album, you won't be disappointed.

what a fab album!!5
this is my latest additon to westlife albums. bought it last year when it was released. it is brilliant as well as the great ballads there are a couple of upbeat tracks its great when I play it when driving. can't wait to see them again in concert.
