Customer Reviews
Badly written and irrelevant to "Civil War"
I have recently started collecting installments in Marvel's "Civil War" events, which spans a number of comic-series, with an interesting and engaging storyline, that glues the whole Marvel-universe anno 2007 together. A disaster is caused by irresponsible heroes, and congress calls for registration of all superhumans, which leads to a deep rift between those for and against, embodied in Iron Man (for) and Cpt. America (against).
Unfortunately, this particular installment is a complete waste of time. I was drawn by the promise of a "flip side"-view on the events in Civil War, and the story of The Kingpin (see description). Unfortunately, that story isn't very good, and only makes up less than one fifth of the entire book. The rest is a single story about a gangster, who is gradually manipulated into becoming the Super Villain "Underworld", but the characters are uninteresting, and the plot paper-thin; even for a comic-book-version of a gangster-movie.
For reasons unknown, the retail price of this particular book is way above average for similar collections, so If you are just shopping for comics or "Civil War"-installment: Select another book!
Only buy this if you have a special loyalty to the creators, or need to complete your collection. It's not worth the money or the time. The artwork inside is only slightly better than that on the cover, the story really doesn't add up, and the dialogue is hollow. The book was a disappointment, compared to the standard.
Top notch!
Another great installment in the Civil War series and a must have for anyone who's been following it. The fresh angle is that the scenario is seen from the perspective of the Super-Villains. The main story offers fresh insight in to the character of the Kingpin, puts a new twist on the series and keeps the reader guessing all the way through to the end. The other story inroduces a new character called Underworld. It's riveting romp with some nice cameo appearances from the likes of Spiderman and villains of the past like Silvermane. Thoroughly recommended.
