New cover reissue of Book One of the classic ELENIUM series introducing the Pandion Knight Sparhawk and his horse Faron, a sleeping queen, and a jewel that can save her! After a long spell of exile, Sparhawk, Pandion Knight and the Queen's champion, returns to his native land to find it overrun with evil and intrigue -- and his young Queen grievously ill. Indeed, Ehlana lies magically entombed within a block of crystal, doomed to die unless a cure can be found within a year. But as Sparhawk and his allies -- who include Sephrenia, the ageless sorceress, and Flute, the strange and powerful girl-child -- seek to save Ehlana and the land, they discover that the evil is even greater and more pervasive than they feared! Truly a gem of epic fantasy from the modern master of the genre, THE DIAMOND THRONE is a must for Eddings fans -- and an excellent introduction for those who have yet to discover the delights of his work.

Worth 5 Stars and More!
This was the first David Eddings book I read and in my opinion the best he has ever written. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I first picked it up and started to read it. I think I was expecting some pitifully bad story about a boring knight trying to save his equally boring queen. However, to my surprise, within the first few pages I was hooked! I was deeply engrossed within the plot and found myself liking each and every character I came across (except for the bad guys of course). I was amazed at how much I enjoyed this book and David Eddings is now without a doubt my favourite author! I even have an entire bookshelf dedicated to his books.
I heartily recommend this book to anyone, whether you've come across Eddings' books before or whether you have never even heard of him.
You may be wary of his books at first but I hope you find them as brilliant as I do.
Enjoy!
Fantasy with subtle humour
Nice story, its my first Eddings novel, and I was nicely rewarded with a damn fine plot, great characters who fit so neatly into each other and seem to have been cut from the same stone. One of a few fantasy writers who has a great sense of humour - not in the Teryy Pratchett sense, but in subtle character interactions. I found myself stifleing a chuckle on the underhround more than I normally would. I heartily recommend it to anyone who hasn't read one of his books before, it's great place to start! For those regulars, it's the best of the Elenium series.
loved it, loved it.
This was the first Eddings book I have read and will not be the last. All the characters a well written and you actually get very fond them. The fantasy world Eddings creates really pulls you in and the story line is very clever with twists and turns. Only reason I finished this so quickly was so that I could start the next!
