Excellence in the Story that begins the life of the best!
For those who don't know, Dark Elves are Deadly, they live in the Bowels of the Earth deep underground. Menzoberranzan, the largest of the Dark Elves' Lairs! there begins the life of the Wonderful Drizzt!
This Book really is an exceptional Marvel R A Salvatore has a way of capturing the heart of the readers and at the same time give Lots of personality to the other characters, in time, u end up liking the evilness of the other characters but at the same time feel for the main hero of the plot!
The Novel plays about with how it could be the mind set a birth, or the Environment that makes a person how they really are! A Brilliant start to a trilogy of books!
An excellent beginning to a new trilogy
I was sceptical when I bought this book - I can't remember why. Was I ever pleasantly surprised with the quality of Salvatore's writing. He threw out the line, I bit and he reeled me in.
This book is about the bad elves. Way under the earth they live in something called Homeland - hence the title of the book. In the city of Menzoberranzan Drizzt Do'Urden is born into a family (society) where boys are things and whose sole aim in life is to make certain the women do not become angry with them. Magic and their religion make the consequences of that anger pretty horrendous.
Drizzt is the odd duck out. Not only does he look different from the rest but his sense of honor is beyond the scope of his unprincipled society. He fights this world of wickedness with a vengeance. And the price for his struggle will turn out to be higher than he had imagined.
A good beginning.
THE STORY:
Amid the treachery and cruelty of the world of the dark elves, an unusual child matures into a warrior of unparalleled skill and unwelcome compassion.
WHAT'S GOOD:
This story shows exactly what events forged Drizzt Do'Urden, one of the best fantasy heroes ever; his childhood amid his murderous family, his revelations about the evil of Drow society and his bond with Zaknafein, his father and a similarly compassionate warrior. The story is well written and has intrigue, tension, action and emotion in perfectly balanced parts.
WHAT'S BAD:
This book lacks the epic scope of Salvatore's other work and at times is a little slow, but these are minor points and easily overlooked.
The perfect introduction to both Drizzt and the Forgotten Realms series as a whole.
