Fantastic Glossary
If you read the other reviews you will see that the artwork has been slated. Not a problem for the paperback edition because there is NO artwork at all. Just a few maps.
Luckily I bought the book for the background information. And there's plenty of that. Don't expect an exciting read. This book should be regarded as a much extended glossary. And in that capacity it does a much better job than, say... The Rivan Codex.
One last point to note. There are a couple of plot spoilers contained within. (I read it after The Great Hunt - book 2). It didn't bother me, but plotwise, I believe it should be read after A Crown of Swords - book 7.
I Hope this review helps.
Well worth it, if you ignore the artist's impressions
I have leafed through this book and have placed it on order, and think it is well worth the money. However, I am glad to see that I am not the only one who was bitterly disappointed in the illustrations. The characters were similar to a "Mr. Potato Head" in that all the characters looked identical with just the hair colour changed or clothing. And when the simplest details such as that are wrong, it brings down the rating of the book. I am sure I am not the only one who would have given it a five-star rating, if it hadn't been for the poor work of the artist. I am eagerly awaiting the ninth novel, and have been since I first completed the eighth- bring it on! Hopefully, there will be a second edition of the World of Robert Jordan, with up to date information and new illustrations!
bad art
this book makes a valiant effort, but the art in it is truly horrible. if you're looking for good WoT art, you'd be better off buying the rpg. i only gave 2 stars because, while the information is fine, its mostly based on the art, so bad artwork takes a lot awat from it.
