Synopsis
Robert Luketic, the director of LEGALLY BLONDE, helms this retro romantic comedy that stars Kate Bosworth as Rosalee Futch, a modern day Sandra Dee embroiled in a whirlwind love triangle. Rosalee, a naively innocent small-town girl works at her local Piggly Wiggly and dreams of love with movie hunk Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel) unaware that her best friend and manager Pete (Topher Grace) is secretly in love with her but afraid to tell her how he really feels. Meanwhile, in Hollywood, Tad Hamilton's bad boy image needs some revamping so his managers (played by Nathan Lane and Sean Hayes) cook up a charity contest to WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON! in an effort to clean up his act. In West Virginia, Rosalee enters and surprisingly wins, and is instantly whisked away to Los Angeles for a tabloid perfect dream date complete with a stretch limo and make-over, much to the chagrin of tortured Pete. What begins as a publicity stunt becomes much more serious as Tad becomes smitten by Rosalee's innocence and honesty. Within days he follows Rosalee back to West Virginia, buys a house, and declares his love to her, shocking not only Rosalee but also the entire town, especially Pete. Back home, Rosalee is forced to choose between a fantasy romance with Tad or the real life love possible with Pete in this classic 1950s style romance that harkens back to the days of Elvis Presley and Sandra Dee.

frothy and delightful fun
This romantic comedy may be predictable, but it's also utterly charming, cleverly written, and wonderfully acted. All the young actors in the cast are terrific, and helped by the good script, are always believable; there are no lame lapses of dialogue that come off as insincere.
Kate Bosworth (seen recently as Sandra Dee in "Beyond the Sea"), is beautiful and sweet as Rosalee, a cashier at the Piggly Wiggly supermarket, who wins a date with movie star Tad Hamilton; Tad's hilarious management team (Nathan Lane as Richard Levy the Driven, and Sean Hayes as Richard Levy the Shameless), in order to rehabilitate their client's shoddy image invent a "charity date" scheme, never thinking that Tad will actually fall for the girl, which he does, creating a love triangle with Piggly Wiggly's store manager, who is madly but secretly in love with Rosalee.
Topher Grace shines as Pete the supermarket manager, as he tries to compete with the smile and abs of movie hunk Tad (perfectly played by Josh Duhamel). His comedic timing is marvelous, and he has a "lovability factor" that reminds me of John Cusack's Lloyd Dobler in that other romantic gem, "Say Anything".
Also good in the cast is the very funny Ginnifer Goodwin as Rosalee's best friend, and Kathryn Hahn as Angelica the Bartender.
The above average script was written by Victor Levin, Robert Luketic did the well paced direction, and it has a pleasant (meaning nothing overtly annoyed me) contemporary soundtrack with songs like Liz Phair's "Why Can't I ?" and John Mayer's "Back to You". There are scenes that have laugh-out-loud humor, and a lovely sappy ending that will bring tears to the eyes of those with sentimental hearts.
Total running time 95 minutes.
Win a date with Tad!! Orlando Should be!!!
I first saw this movie advertised on tv and decided to buy the american disc instead of going to the cinema as it looked like it would be my kinda movie and i'd probably end up buying it anyways. The movie is about Rosalee Futch a small town supermarket clerk who with her two best friends dreams of bigger and better things. They spend nearly every weekend at the local warner cinema to see the latest Tad Hamilton Movie-Rosalee's movie idol. Then one day she gets the chance to enter a competition to Win a date with Tad Hamilton her dream. Much to the annoyance of her best friend Pete (That 70's Show- Topher Grace) She wins the competition and heads of to california for her date. Rosalee inspires Tad Hamilton to want to be a better person so he follows her home to Frazerbottom To spend some more time with her. Rosalee and tad start to date and she eventually starts to fall in love with him. In the meantime pete is trying to think of every way to steal her back with very little success, tad even steals petes comments about rosalee and spouts them back to her to get her to agree to go back with him. Pete then finally decides to let her know how he feels and lets just say in usual chick flick style it all ends well. If only this would come true for us all i would certainly love to Win a date with Orlando Bloom!!!
a humorous love story with two men fighting for the same woman
This is a humorous film that starts well, gets a little dull and then becomes really good for the last 30 minutes or so.Beautiful people in beautiful locations (in Virginia) and some great acting from Topher Grace as Pete the guy who's grown up with Rosalee (Kate Bosworth)over 22 years and secretly wants her as his girlfriend but finds that she's already fallen for the film star Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel, who you may have seen as Danny in the tv series Las Vegas). This film is called Win A Date With Tad Hamilton but Kate Bosworth looks so nice that most male viewers will wish they had won a date with her (her best film is Blue Crush - a surfing movie which is well worth seeing for the outstanding photography of the ocean).
