A Eyewitness Convert4
This was the first Eyewitness guide I have bought after previously buying Lonely Planets, Rough Guides and the like. After using it over the last week, I'm a convert. The layout is well suited to getting quick and handy information on the run, or if you have time to spare, it proves to be an interesting read with it's many pictures, detailed maps and facts. It seemed to be up to date on prices, opening times and contact details. I didn't use the accommodation section, so can't comment on that, but tend to have that sorted pre trip anyway. The general section at the start of the book gave great background to France, it's history and culture. I love how it has suggested walking routes on it's section maps and how everything is cross refernced. The only potential negative is that it doesn't provide much information on bars, pubs and clubs - but a local whats on style guide could be better for that and more up to date. A glance around the museums and attractions we have seen seemed to show that this was the most popular range of guides for France - and I can see why. To put it simply, I'm an Eyewitness Convert.

French lessons!5
I think that this series of DK travel info books are just great for wetting your appetite. There are lots of very good illustrations and many topics are covered. An ideal starting book for further research for the serious traveller and happy traveller alike.

Holiday Companion4
We first bought his ten or more years ago when we were regularly taking holidays in France with the kids. We bought the latest edition simply to have some more up to date info.

We have many guides from thsi series, findlngthema l to be equaly easyto use and navigate your way around. As you'd expect with Dorling Kindersley teh layout is clear, the pictures colourful and eye-catching, the text eays to read and the illustrations - often cut-aways - very useful for understanding more about a building, palace or whatever.

Fully indexed with general information atteh front, incluing a very useful brief historyof the country, the book is spelit by geographical areas. Ateh back there are universalyuseful sectiosn of hotels, resturants, travel and even a quicktranslator to help in hotels and resturants.

We've found and liked hotels, restuitants, musuem - as well as thankfully avoided a few - withe th simple, unemotional content of these guides.

On holiday we never leave the house/hotel without it so thankfully the glossy but flexible cover is pretty resilient to rain, sand and sticky fingers. A real friend when you're away.
