Excellent
Essential reading for those exporing their spirituality and wanting to work on their personal development. There are many inspirational and wise words. The exercises and meditations help the reader to put what they read into practice. It is a book that is easy to read and is broken up into digestable chapters. This was my first experience of Shakti Gawain and I am busy reading her classic - Creative Visualization - so far,so good. I'd also recommend Caroline Myss.
A primer in consciousness growth
I read this book many years ago, but the principles and clear thinking have been a great foundation for my spiritual enlightenment in the years following. Its often hard to determine which book or teaching created the foundation for a good life...but I know this one was a cornerstone! Thanks Shakti for this and also Creative Visualization..... No quick fixes - which is a good thing!
The mission of Shakti Gawain's Living in the Light is to give readers the tools that they need to develop their spirituality and personal wisdom. Gawain's premise is that we become more conscious and more balanced as we get to know, accept and embrace all the different aspects of who we are, including and especially the parts of ourselves that we'd rather forget.
Living the Light is divided into two parts. In the first part, Gawain offers what are effectively her top ten principles upon which she relies to guide her readers along the journey of self-discovery. In the second part, the author takes her teachings and puts them in the context of everyday life. There are chapters on such subjects as getting to grips with your intuition, dealing with authority, finding one's true career path as well as how to relate to children.
It's easy to understand how she has developed such a following given her talent for taking topics that might be otherwise heavy and making them quite digestible. The chapters are short and sweet with each ending with a mediation and exercises to help readers release old patterns and create room for a new way of living.
I am a fan of Gawain's work. But I have to say that to achieve what Living in the Light promises, readers should be prepared to roll up their sleeves and get up close and person with the good as well as the bad and the ugly sides of themselves. To be sure, this is hard work. So, don't expect to find a quick fix here. Living in the Light is definitely for someone who's committed and ready for the long haul.
