Worth The Money .....Until The Cog Wheels Wear Out
Like other reviewers, I had the same bother with my Fellowes shredder. The cog wheels inside are plastic and will not last. I have just consigned my otherwise perfectly good shredder to the bin all for the sake of a cheap plastic cog wheel. What a waste! I won't buy a Fellowes shredder again.
Good - for a while
Well, I've had this for just over a year now and I've always been pleased with the way it just got on and did it's job...
...until now.
The shredder suddenly stopped working, making a high pitched whirring sound instead. So, I decided to take it to bits. I'd always imagined it to be well made with quality parts - it certainly seems that way on the outside. However, I soon found the source of the problem - a plastic gear wheel had worn against the metal drive from the motor. This is a failure waiting to happen - a small jam puts pressure on the gearing which will lead to failure sooner or later.
The repair should be easy - the defective cog just slips off and can be replaced easily - if Fellowes did spare parts. However - it appears they don't. So for 10p worth of spare part the whole shredder has to go to landfill.
So, if you only feed single sheets through it and never risk a jam it should be OK for a relatively long time. Personally I'm never going to buy a Fellowes again - I'll stick to budget makes instead.
Do not buy this!!!
After only about 3 months, the gear wheel has worn out and that is only with very light use. After being told that there was replacement parts, it now turns out there aren't any. (Probably because they've all been used!) So paid £30 for it, and now it's useless.
