    H10 20GB iPod beater?5
I have had my 20GB H10 for a couple of months now and it is great. It is slightly larger than the 5/6Gb models but is still pretty compact and fits in the pocket though no where near as small as the iPod Nano. It's easy to use, the slider bar is great, the software is a doddle and the FM radio is excellent. I haven't used the voice recorder apart from a quick test though this seems fine too. It's stylish, playback is excellent and browsing music by artist, album or genre is very easy. The colour screen is very sharp and can display digital photos etc. they're not huge but still big enough and clear enough. All in all an excellent product, what more can you ask for!?

    A good buy - simple, effective, inexpensive5
I bought this a couple of weeks ago due to the fact that the commute to work is extremely boring and long, and also because my collegues recommended it. My closest friend has a 6GB version of the H10, and has had some problems with it in the past and another has the 5GB version and has had no problems with it - I was dubious about a purchase.

Let's start off with a basic overall view:

    Sound Quality - 10/10

The sound is pure genius. The headphones provided, Sennheiser, are of extremely good quality and are more durable than the headphones Apple provides with the iPod. With SRS WOW options and countless EQ settings, you can adjust the sound to suit your needs. The volume varies from very quiet to very loud, although not too damaging for your ears. I find that usually the volume control is on 24 (out of a possible 40), which allows me to clearly hear the music/radio and also people speaking to me if needed.

    Storage Capacity - 10/10

So far, i've used up around 2GB of the 20GB space, and i have well over 500 songs on there. The capacity of 8,000 songs is excellent and well beyond the reach of someone like myself. The added bonus of being able to store recordings from the radio and over 300 hours of voice is impressive. There is a slight drawback which is you cannot directly delete files from the H10 without upgrading the firmware.

    Battery life - 8/10

The battery life has been great to me so far, and I've charged it twice in the four weeks I've had it (and i listen to it for about 1-2 hours a day). The charging is very quick - about 2 hours and the battery is fully charged for me.

    Reliability - 8/10

The iRiver has the omnimous glow of the classic system freeze surrounding it, and I myself have had my iRiver freeze on me twice so far. Fortunately, there is a RESET pin-hole at the top of the iRiver, and as far as I'm aware of this is not present on the two other versions (however I could be wrong). Inserting a pin into this hole restarts the system and unfreezes it.

    Extra Features - 10/10

The bonus of having a radio, voice recorder, photo viewer and text viewer is EXCELLENT. The quality of recording is up to par with most professional voice dictation machines. The radio can store up to 20 different preset stations and has great reception without the need of a long annoying aerial. The large, bright and colourful screen is excellent and you can see pictures much more clearer than the iPod does. The text viewer is extremely useful for me - if i need to remember an important fact for later in the day, i can write a text file on my PC and transfer it to the iRiver and read it later! A genius design feature. Other features include an alarm, a clock, shuffle and repeat modes, power off and sleep timers, music fade in, playlists and countless others.

    Overall - 9.5/10

This is definitely a good buy if you want an excellent alternative to the iPod. The scroll system rivals the wheel system of the iPod with a great vengence - I find it much easier to find a song/artist with the scroll bar instead of the wheel. The only drawback with getting the 20GB H10 over the 5/6GB version is the size of the actual player itself. The 20GB H10 is larger in width/weight/length than the 5/6GB version and can appear bulky. However, the bright screen makes up for this as the 6GB version screen is extremely small compared to this.

If you're in the same position as i was, then think about it logically. If you want a very good alternative to the iPod then seriously consider the 20GB H10 iRiver. It definitely needs to be tested to appreciate the full glory of it.

    Iriver H10 20gb Media Player4
I was in the market for a large capacity mp3 player. My current music library is approx 10gb and I couldn't be bothered going for a 5 or 6 and having to manage my library so I was looking for a 20gb. Ignoring Ipod's from a hipe/cost perspective I reviewed the whole MP3 hard disk market place. In my opinion after reviewing all the reviews on the internet this player came up as the best buy for its features, price and design. On the Internet I saw good and bad reviews and after owning the product I feel some are justified.

    Facts:-

    Positive
    1. Price
    2. Design/Look
    3. Capacity
    4. Iriver provide Firmware upgrades
    5. Radio
    6. Record Audio and Radio

    Negative
    1. Will only work with Windows XP (not Windows 2000)
    2. YOU HAVE TO USE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10 TO SYNC media onto player
    3. Slightly thicker than 5/6 gb H10's
    4. Battery is not removable
    5. Currently device can't be made to UMS (Universal media storage)
    6. Iriver connector on USB connector.
    7. Power supply requires USB Connector and doesn't connect direct
    8. Extra's very rare and expensive (even on Ebay)

Taking the above into account I am still pleased with my purchase. It fits in my pocket fine and I accept that it's a bit bigger physically than the 5/6gb H10 but with 3 times capacity I feel its worth it. I think the Media player 10 reliance is the biggest drawback as I hate this software but once you have sync'd the media player with the library, using it to put the odd album on is just about bearably (Real shame that it looks like Iriver have got into "bed" with Microsoft). A lot of people in other reviews complained about the player locking. I have also suffered this. This was after updating the firmware to the latest issue. I think the hanging problem was a result of unplugging the player when it hadn't finished syncing. After using a feature on the player (database refresh) I haven't had the problem again !!!

In summary if you are looking for a 20gb media player and can put up with media player 10 then this is good buy !!.
