Great Design, Badly implemented
This is a game I played during Closed and Open Betas, I thoroughly enjoyed that, I also played in the headstart however on release, the game has become a bit of a joke, below are some of the problems that still have not been sorted.
1.It is overrun with bots and goldspammers, there solution to this was to allow players to go anonymous and also ignore /block them.
2.There is no naming policy at all.
3.PVP seems to involve zerg fests that are so bad the the average person with a good machine will be disconnected multiple times due to the sheer number of people involved.
4.Major lag issues on some servers, this usually causes you to die, then a huge resurection cost to get back some of your xp.
5.Marauding bands of players much higher in level scouring the lands and ganking low level players often repeatedly, sometimes these bands even slaughter the supposed guards.
6.Severe server overcrowding.
7.Total lack of support by NCSoft, no sign of a GM anywhere despite them saying they are actively monitoring chat channels this aint happening, least on the european servers. You dont even get a response even when you raise a ticket.
8.Major client instability the game apparently has issues with a memory leak problem which causes a CTD. With the new Windows 7 it sometimes comes up with a request for the CD, despite the fact that it doesn't actually need it in the drive to play it also randomly stops working with the phrase `Aion Client has stopped working'
Despite its promising start the game rapidly slows down and degenerates into a grind fest the likes of which even I've never seen before in an MMORPG and i've played them since Ultima Online first appeared many moons ago. Unless you can commit half your life to playing this game dont bother buying it, because you will still be here in 6 months trying to grind to 50 (Max level)
Tbh it started off as a great game with lots of promise, graphically its beautiful but having to change your graphics settings to go into pvp is insane. Lack of prompt action with bots/goldspammers has hurt this game severely, even the measures introduced recently havent worked. On a plus note the queues are gone now, mainly because alot of people have quit.
If NCSoft could actually respond to people on the European servers it would be great, but they dont, they have made a grave mistake here and ignored their customers at least in Europe they have. This game seems like it being marketed to Europe as a cash cow proven by the 0% support myself and others who have requested assistance have received. Maybe they should have kept the game in the US/Korean markets, as this seems to be the only places where support is being provided.
Save your money, buy something else guys!
Visually & aurally one of the most beautiful games I've ever played
I've played at least the top 20 MMO's over the years ever since being introduced to them by a friend who was playing City of Heroes (CoH) at the time.
This game is something else. The Japanese influence to the graphics, music, game play and storylines give it such a pretty edge. All of the little finishing touches they've added here and there really make this an enjoyable game (even from the character creation screen - which rivals the CoH/CoV creator: unrivalled by any MMO up to now).
I am preordering the Collector's Edition at this very moment.
I like to be constructively critical, but I find myself unable to complain about anything I've experienced so far.
If you can get hold of a beta key, think yourself lucky. Not only because they go like hot cakes, but because of what you'll have a chance to be involved in... testing a very enjoyable game that resets the benchmark for not just fantasy MMO's (which there are too many of), but multiplayer online games in general.
If you get the opportunity to play it, you'll see exactly what I mean.
Aion
This Game is one of the best mmos i have ever played. It's graffics are stunning! And the questing system is very well layed out which makes playing the game extreamly fun! With many different proffesions to make money and gain new armour and wepons. Two different races of Elyos, Asmodians and balaur. The Abyss being pvpers Heaven and the scenary is amazing. This game would be a great buy for anybody wanting to find a new mmorpg.
