ronnie lane finally receives the recognition his wonderful talent deserves.this dvd took me through all the emotions,joy at seeing ronnie enjoying himself on stage and at home,anger at how he was ripped off by managers,laughing out loud as he's described as as being a very naughty boy for his fondness for the fair sex, and sadness at his sad death.plenty of anecdotes from ex-slim chance members,grease band,mac and kenny,pete townsend and eric plus his ex-wives make for very interesting viewing.this isn't a whitewash job either as funny and embarrassing moments are recalled.the fact that they genuinely couldn't find anyone with a bad word to say about ronnie is a testament to the man.the only (slight)disappointment is that rod and woody didn't contribute for whatever reasons.this is an extended version of the programme shown earlier this year on bbc4,the extras with ronnies friends playing some of his songs really are a delight.when shown on tv this was followed by ronnie lane at the bbc with footage from his career in the small faces,top of the pops with the faces, up to his appearances on the old grey whistle test with slim chance.this sadly is not included on this set though performance footage is scattered throughout though not in its entirety.had this dvd included this footage i would have had no hesitation in awarding it 5 stars.as it is it is still a fantastic tribute to the wonderful genius of ronnie which i recommend to anyone with even a passing interest in the man.heres hoping the bbc footage will eventually see the light of day on dvd.until then this fills the gap nicely.

A lovingly assembled tribute to the life and music of Ronnie Lane compiled from the recollections of family, close friends and the musicians Ronnie worked with over the all too short years of his life. These interviews have been spliced together with rare archive & concert footage and accompanied throughout by a soundtrack spanning his career. If, like me, your life has been touched by Ronnies music at any time from the Small faces via The Faces and into the Slim Chance years, then you should not hesitate to buy this. My heartfelt thanks to Rupert Williams and his co-producers for the labour of love in putting this together and as Ronnie wrote on the cover of Slim Chance - thanks to Mrs Schlagbaum for having such a nice boy.
