CD Description
'Magic Moments' is the definitive collection for fans of Burt Bacharach, one of the most iconic and successful names inthe history of music. With a career that has included songwriting credits for seventy US top 40 hits - many of which with Dionne Warwick during the 1960s - Bacharach has left an incredible mark on the industry. Including Jackie De Shannon's 'What the World Needs Now Is Love', Dionne Warwick's classic 'Walk On By' and Aretha Franklin's 'I Say A Little Prayer'.

PERFECT!5
I bought the album in Australia where it is already available, but obviously they seem to be putting it out over here for Valentine's Day. In any case, it is simply incredible!!! It plays very well as for once somebody at the record company thought about the running order of an album; and apart from 1 or 2 songs doesn't have any dodgy tracks on it whatsoever.

The original of CLOSE TO YOU by The Carpenters or Jackie de Shannon's WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE (as sung by Brucie on the Strictly Come Dancing final before Christmas ;-) ) are just 2 of my all time greatest tracks. It's also nice to find some rare tracks by Cliff Richard, Andy Williams, Will Young and Keely Smith.

The booklet contains linernotes by Elvis Costello which are very honest and touching, but obviously just scratch the surface on what an amazing songwriter Burt Bacharach really is.

Everybody that saw him live at the BBC Electric Proms in October last year, knows that he is a very humble person considering how many records he must have sold in his 50+ year career.

I say, go and get it, if it's for yourself or as a gift, it won't disappoint!!

Not Perfect and definitely not definitive3
With these collections it's just as much about what's been left off as what's been included, so it's congratulations to Rhino for their 'Definitive' Bacharach collection of 3 CDs and with no less than 75 tracks with no - wait for it - Twenty-Four Hours From Tulsa (!!!), Message to Michael/Martha, Are You There (With Another Girl), Promises, Promises and the world-wide No.1, On My Own. Songs like Crazy Times, Gotta Get a Girl, How About, Thirty Miles of Railroad Track and Once in a Blue Moon are all fine when found on a Bacharach 'Rarities' collection, but not on a compilation entitled 'Definitive'. And why include decidedly inferior versions of some of the most popular songs, like Billy J Kramer's Trains and Boats and Planes, Nancy Wilson's Reach Out for Me and Shirley Bassey's A House is not a Home? Utterly mind boggling.

Magic Moments - Burt Bacharach3
Majority of track selections are great but, these tend to be the ones we already know.
Don't understand why inferior covers are used instead of the originals in a number of cases and why "modern" artists, such as Will Young, are included unless it is to try and entice a new market?
