Synopsis
Contains all the episodes from the first series of the classic and highly influential television comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus. Consisting of British actors Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and American Terry Gilliam, the hugely influential comedy troupe evolved from Cambridge University's Footlight Society in the late 1960s in order to become one of the most worshipped comedy acts of all time. Groundbreaking both in terms of its offbeat acting style and radical approach to the most controversial, taboo subjects (including sex, race, and politics), the legendary series MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS would forever change the face of sketch comedy. After the series' demise, the unit would go on to create several big screen classics, including MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL and MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN, as well as spawning major Hollywood careers for its members (most notably, Gilliam, director of THE FISHER KING and TWELVE MONKEYS). BUY THE GERMAN BOX SET INSTEAD
I would like to add my comments to those below. The German 7-disc box set looks great, the picture and sound are fabulous (much better than I remember it when last broadcast) and it costs less than half the price of the UK editions (£37 against £75 - no contest). I wondered if subtitles might be a problem. They're not. There's a choice of many languages including English and English HOH, but you just select Subtitles Off and away you go. (In fact, I may watch them all over again WITH German subtitles just to see how bizarre that will be!)

Amazon.de is the place to be
Couldn't agree more with the other reviewers about obtaining the complete set from Amazon.de. £38, delivery within 5 days - why isn't this set available in the UK yet?

The very best, but incomplete.....
At last, Monty Python series one comes to DVD - you can't beat it....unless you go to amazon.de and buy the complete box set of series 1-4 (all 45 episodes) for 38 quid, including shipping. Why the big delay in the UK?!
