Detective Inspector Jack Frost, officially on duty, is nevertheless determined to sneak off to a colleague's leaving party. But first the corpse of a well-known local junkie is found blocking the drain of a Denton public lavatory - and then, when Frost attempts to join the revels later on, the nubile daughter of a wealthy businessman is reported missing. Sleepy Denton has never known anything like the crime wave which now threatens to submerge it. A robbery occurs at the town's notorious strip joint, the pampered son of a local MP is suspected of a hit-and-run offence and, to top it all, a multiple rapist is on the loose. Frost is reeling under the strain, his paperwork is still in arrears and now, more than ever, his self-righteous colleagues would love to see him sacked. But the manic Frost manages to assure his superior that all is under control. Now he has only to convince himself.

About the Author
After a successful career writing for radio, R.D. Wingfield turned his attention to fiction and created the character of D.I. Jack Frost, who has featured in the titles A Touch of Frost, Frost at Christmas, Night Frost, Hard Frost, Winter Frost and A Killing Frost. The series has been adapted for television as the perennially popular A Touch of Frost starring David Jason. R.D. Wingfield died in 2007.
Customer Reviews
Brilliantly funny
Because I enjoyed the TV series enormously I've recently purchased all of Mr Wingfield's books. The first one I chose to read was A Touch of Frost. His portrayal of all the characters is very descriptive and the narrative is brilliant in it's humour. I couldn't envisage anything better than the TV series, excellent as it was, but the books are far better. A warning though: don't read these books in public - your rawcus laughing at the wit on almost every page may just disturb others. I wish Mr Wingfield would write more. I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms already. At least 12 stars.
A brilliant listen!
Supremely disorganised, dishevelled and a brilliant detective ... what a great character Jack Frost is - played perfectly by David Jason. Thoroughly recommended ... now then, which were the other titles in the series and where's my wallet!?
Take miles/hours off a journey.
This is very easy listening. Perfect to while away a moderately
long journey. The plot is multi-facetted with inventive asides
woven in. It is amusing, engaging and plausible even though the
Inspector always seems to be in the right place at the right time! David Jason reads brilliantly and one can "see" him playing
the part.Recommended+++++.
