NOT a "Fishing Encyclopedia"
If this book were titled "Fishing with a centre-pin reel" it would score 5 out of 5 stars. Fly or lure fishing, combined with a centre-pin reel is shown catching a wide variety of fish - including trout, salmon, perch, barbel, carp, chub, bass, tarpon, bonefish - the list is endless. However, the book barely mentions fishing with either fixed spool or multiplier reels, both of which are far more popular.
Why is this? Well, a clue lies in the fact that barely a page goes by without a reference to the tackle manufacturer Hardy & Greys. There are pictures of centre-pins with H&G logos, rods butts with H&G logos, hats with H&G logos. There are dozens of glowing references to H&G in the text. After a while these constant references become quite irritating and the book reads more like an H&G tackle catalogue. And guess what? H&G only make centre-pin reels - which feature as being ideal fo every type of fishing.
On the up side, if you want a book on fishing a fly or lure with a centre pin this book is for you. There are some excellent photographs and good chapters about fishing for exotic species in a number of different countries.
However, if you want a good all-round "Fishing Encyclopedia" this is most certainly not it.
