2 failures with this drive so far1
I ordered two of these drives, and have them in a RAID array. I run them from a Gigabyte motherboard.
Within a few months one drive had completely failed. Samsung directed me towards a company called Rexo that they have outsourced all hard drive returns to (presumably to deal with the volume?).
Before sending rexo your HDD I'd take a few moments to find out a bit about the company, maybe even just looking at their building and its location on the satellite veiw of Google maps! It may make you want to wipe your drive incredibly thoroughly, or not send it at all.

Anyway Rexo's policy is simply to send you out a 'reconditioned' hard drive - ie a second hand one that has failed, but they think they have repaired it.

The replacement drive arrived from them, and again has failed within a few months.

I have been trying to get Samsung to send me a replacement drive that is new, but they refuse to do this.

My next step is to use consumer legislation to try to get my money back - and then purchase hard drives from another manufacturer.

This looked attractive, but simply isn't up to the job, and the support is not there to back it up.

    Fast, quiet, but unreliable1
OK, I read the hype about these drives, and they were recommended by someone I trust. However, they are without doubt the most unreliable drives I have ever had (in over 30 years of computing!). In December I bought 4 to create a RAID5 array. One drive died whilst formatting the array. Since then, TWO more have died, so 3 out of 4 drives have failed in less than 4 months. I admit I work the drives very hard, but my advice is to not trust these drives with important data, you will most likely lose it.

Great value hard drive, a definite purhcase for media computers!5
I bought this hard drive for £94.99 and that is great value because it works out at just over 10p a gigabyte. It is 931gb when formatted and it runs very smooth and always cool. It is also a very quiet hard drive. I am using this as a second hard drive to store all of my media files, and I had it installed and working within 5 minutes out of the box. Brilliant piece of kit and a must have for all of you media lovers out there.
