One of the 3 things interrailers must have
Clearly one of the 3 things inter railers must take with them on their journey. It helped me in all my 22 days throughout eastern europe. All the connections were perfectly updated and correct. And the up to the minute scenario helped me plan my route through every country, city and litle village. All the schedules were correct. The most important tool to take on an inter rail. Definitely.
The other 2 things to take are:
1 - Lonely Planet - Europe on a shoestring
2 - Thomas Cook - Rail Map of Europe
EUROPEAN RAIL TIMETABLE
Great book for anyone wishing to travel across Europe by train or even to take day trips from your holiday resort which is the reason I purchased it. However, it does not show all the stations in certain areas, it seems to concentrate on main line services only which was no good to me. Also the print is tiny and would be unsuitable for people with poor eyesight, I wear glasses and still had difficulty in reading the text.
Thomas Cook European Railway Timetable
Pretty useful for anyone thinking of making extensive rail journeys across Europe. Better than the internet (e.g. Deutsche Bahn) because it allows you to browse possibilities, internet timetables generally want you to say where you are travelling to/from. Although each volume strictly speaking is only valid for the stated period, in practice because railway timetables only evolve gradually over many years, any particular edition can be generally useful over a long period.
