"Explore New Zealand" is the ideal companion for everyone - overseas visitors as well as locals - who chooses a driving holiday as the best way to discover the stunning diversity of scenery and other attractions to be found in the North and South Islands. By dividing the country into 12 regions, each of which is further divided into approximately five tours tailored to offer the ideal combination of sights and experiences, the book will help the reader make the most of their driving holiday. There are 61 tours in total, and each contains a detailed map (created by Barry Bradley, New Zealand's leading cartographer) and full-colour photography that illustrates some of the highlights of that particular trip. In this new edition the text, photography and maps have been fully revised and updated where necessary to take account of new attractions, routes and contact details.

Great for NZ Road Trips
My wife and I went to New Zealand in 2006 and used this book above all others as our major reference guide when we toured the whole of the south Island. Unlike a lot of other map/guide books this has stunning illustrations on every page and presents dozens of individual rad trips you can take around New Zealand, both north and south islands.
In short, this book is so good it had native New Zealanders singing its praises when we passed it round and shared discussions of our travels when we finally met up with friends and relatives in Wellington. If you're going on a road trip to New Zealand for the first time I'd recommend this book as it reveals quite a few routes you may not otherwise pay attention to. Good value.
Excellent for touring NZ and finding the places to visit
We have just returned from a 6 week trip to NZ where we were lucky to have been lent this book. Travelling in a camper van we found the suggested daily tours very interesting and about right time wise. We discovered things that when talking to other holidaymakers who had driven the same route had passed oblivious. When shown the book most of these people took details to purchase a copy for themselves as most were travelling with a map only.
We tried in numerous NZ shops and I sites to purchase a copy for ourselves but we could not find this or any comparable book for sale. We ordered from Amazon and found an updated second edition book when we arrived home which looks even better!
The daily tours take in parts of NZ off the "tourist tracks" and allows you to find many hidden gems. We drove 4,400 miles in just over 5 weeks and saw much more of the country then if we had used maps and guidebooks. The book suggests a number of short walks which were also very enjoyable and split up the days.
