In this entomological display, Nature-as-Artist holds sway, transforming each insect into a work of art. Composed of 69 boxes, Kerchache's collection is part of a tradition that dates back to the Renaissance, when people created curio rooms to house the discoveries of the great voyagers.

a cabinet of colourful curiosities
What a treasure of a book to give to someone, a child maybe, to leave them in awe of the natural world, to fire the imagination.A marvellous array of butterflies, beetles and dragonflies cloaked by turn in colours both garish and subtle, with anatomies of great delicacy or armour plate.
A page showing a series of 20 beetles sporting fine gradations of colour within a limited spectrum or a close up of a section of butterflies wing that has a rich impasto of saturated colour looking as fresh as paint.
A dragonfly displays wing membranes delicate yet detailed whilst beetles face the camera head on, gigantic out of proportion pincers which, with the metallic sheen to the rest of their body armour, enhances their liking to battlefield beasts.
Colours to camouflage or dazzle, limbs to attack or fly,you will marvel at the creative diversity and find yourself smiling at the lushness of life Give it to someone in love with the planet, or who needs waking up to the fact.
Amazing nature
Wonderful pictures! All the insects are photographed and presented very well. However I found it frustrating that the index was not very clear. Great coffee table book though and certainly gave me a renewed appreciation of the wonder of nature!
