Simple but quirky, factual, and so fascinating for Under 5's
This whole series is beautifully illustrated, with bright, bold pictures that are simple and yet full of fact. All begin with the life-cycle of a specific animal -- in this case, a spider -- and then touch on a few aspects of its diet, habitat, and habits.

Then, the author makes a transition from the animal's behaviour to that of a human child, pointing out how humans differ. This makes the story very personal to the child reading it, and also makes it more a celebration of the joys and privileges of being human than a book just about a bug.

Best of all, it is written in continuous prose, so a young, beginning reader isn't confused by different snatches of text placed willy-nilly on a page.

Don't expect a lot of words for your money, but I would still recommend this book. As a matter of fact, I would recommend the whole series, especially as a child can more easily compare the different species and begin to draw distinctions between them, realising that not all bugs are the same.
