Customer Reviews

capitol not blue note3
How would "Capitol Trip" sound instead of "Blue Note Trip"? Or "Jazzanova mixin' the most fabulous Capitol tunes?" instead of "Jazzanova mixin' the most fabulous Blue Note tunes"? A lot less attractive, that's for sure. Yet more than half of the tunes on this double cd are Capitol and not Blue Note. Which doesn't mean that the music is bad, not at all, but can you consider Dayton's "The Sound of Music", Maze feat. Frankie Beverly's "Twilight" and the music of Djavan and Egberto Gismonti to reflect the Blue Note sound?

I love some of the stuff on this cd: David Axelrod, Gene Dunlap, Marlena Shaw, Betty Carter and a few others. I do think, though, that Jazzanova should have kept their hands off some of the tunes, such as the wonderful "Oblighetto" by Jack McDuff. I felt terribly irritated when I heard that the extremely funky middle part of that song was dropped completely. What's so great about the intro & outro to a song, when the song itself has been maimed and its most significant part relegated to the dustbin?

For people who want to get to know the Blue Note catalog, this is not the best way.

Masterful Collection5
This compilation really is a gem, some slow soft smooth soulful Jazz mixed with some more upbeat house and funk. It is a must buy if you like the class that Jazzanova represents.
Any one who likes staying up late or getting up early will fall for this, deffinetly not middle of the road music!
