Nymph Fly Tying by Jim Schollmeyer
The Author has clearly taken great care in presenting what I believe is an excellent book for the beginner and also the expert.
The basics in fly tying are excellently illustrated step by step. Jim Schollmeyer leaves nothing to the imagination when presenting the reader with details on the proper method to use to tie a particular fly.
The graphic images are very sharp and present an excellent reference to compare completed nymph paterns.
The Author takes you through the logical steps from tail selection, construction, to body formation and wing construction in a clear and logical fashion.
The book is certainly one of my benchside references.
I have read the book from cover to cover and can strongly recommend it to the beginner to nymph tying and would have no hesitation of buying any of the dozen book references given at the last three pages of his book.
A very useful and particularly well illustrated book
I'm new to fly tying. I particularly wanted a book which was modern and gave detailed instruction on tying general nymph patterns - this book has not let me down. It is well constructed, clearly written and very well illustrated - infact I would say that the photographs (and there are hundreds of them) are nothing short of superb; they clearly illustrate what is being said and they each speak a thousand words. Obviously the book leans toward American patterns (it's an American book) but despite that there is loads of useful information to any fisherman wanting to make his/her own nymphs. The only minor criticism I would make is that some of the materials mentioned are a little esoteric (muskrat tail - mmm don't see a lot of them here in Gloucestershire!) and some of the patterns are a little elaborate; still a really useful, helpful and well made book.
