Trout & Salmon November 2004
It is not an exaggeration to say that it is one of the truly superb angling books of our time.
Country ClubUK, November 2005
‘…the most intelligent and readable book on trout fishing we have read for years… Bob has written a modern classic…’
Synopsis
Trout Hunting is for those who take flyfishing's traditions seriously, and for whom it is more than just a pastime. Bob Wyatt gets to the heart of the matter in a book packed with insight and challenges to conventional thinking. Well known to readers of Fly Fishing & Fly Tying magazine, Wyatt presents a wide-ranging and entertaining investigation of some of fly-fishing's central mysteries, including a fresh look at the theory of the 'selective trout'. Trout Hunting will help get your strategies organised and inspire reflection on the nature of this fascinating pursuit.

Bob Wyatt....Great writer, Great fisherman
Bob writes well in Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazine.....his articles are always insightful and his actual fly tying is superb. I had the pleasure of fishing recently with Bob and he gave me a couple of flies....well did those flies not catch me the nicest wild brownie of the whole season. I've since tied up a fair few of them myself and they are pretty much all I use now. Bobs philosophy these days it seems is keep it simple....and it works. On talking about his book he said that it was his philosophy on fly fishing.......well he writes a good yarn and has fished long enough to be philosophical about it so that's pretty much good enough for me to buy this book just in time for the close season.....to while away those winter nights waiting for spring.....a great gift for a new fly fisherman or an oldie I am sure :)

A Modern Classic
I have read nearly all trout fishing books and this is right up there with the best of them. This is in every sense a modern classic and an essential part of any trout fisher's library.
An excellent book but not what it might appear.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with the other reviewers of this book, if only so other purchasers go in with their eyes open. This book is very long on philosopy and short on instruction. Mr Wyatt knows his stuff, writes great magazine articles and has invented some stunningly successful fly patterns. I suppose I was hoping for a little more of the "how to" element in this book. Instead he rambles, allbeit entertainingly. He muses here, he theorises there. He speculates. One picture is captioned "Fishing the lift on a Scottish river." but there is no explaination of what fishing the lift means or how to do it. Don't get me wrong. If you are an expert angler yourself then this is a five star book - thought provoking and entertaining. However, if you are like me, and rather hoped Mr Wyatt would share a few more of the nuts and bolts, you might be disappointed.
