Customer Reviews

spaced out witty but serious5
I originally bought this recording when it was first released, on cassette as I was a cautious being in those days, and I was buying it unheard, based on a lyrical review in the Guardian, who don't normally review this kind of thing, and whoever wrote the review had, literally, fallen in love with margot's voice.
Whoever they were was right, and this is CJ's best in terms of lyrics and melody, and choices of cover songs. Every time I listen to it, i stop what i am doing, especially for powderfinger. Some lyrics have become household phrases, (I kinda like these extra few feet in my bed) and i can remember what I was doing (stopped doing) the first time I listened to it.
The tape having worn out I am buying it again on CD. There's only one other recording I've done that for!

Smooth, melodic and haunting5
While some people may swear to the power of Barry White as an aid to courting a prospective paramour, the Cowboy Junkies produce music that haunts and seduces. Margo and her brothers have a laid-back yet precise style that defies categorisation. From Country to the Blues, the Junkies will lift your spirits, satisfy your soul and drown you in lazy, post-coital vibes. This is my favourite Cowboy Junkies CD.

I am not a country music fan5
Though this album is not easily categorised it falls partway into the Country genre, which is not somewhere I usually venture. That said this is a fantastic CD - every track is moving and summons up haunting images in my mind. Recommended to anyone regardless of what music you normally consider you like.
