Something new!!!!
I have been a big fan of AP for years and have every album, some are better than others and you cant beat 'Tales of Mystery' and 'On Air'.
Bought this album expecting to be greeted by the familiar. However, this is completely different; its thumping and loud, but is exciting and stunning. This is definately one to play too loud in the car, but watch your speed!!!!!!
There are a couple of tracks, which are reworkings of original Parsons tracks. They made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, its worth buying new speakers just to be blown away.
This is nothing like previous albums, but what a change.
Still a 'valid' purchase
I've not heard any AP since 'Try Anything Once' and a recent documentary on 'Dark Side of the Moon' got me thinking if he'd done much recently. When I saw that 'A Valid Path' included Dave Gilmour I thought that it would be worth a go. However reading the other reviews of 'A Valid Path' I wasn't so sure. Having bought and listened, I'm still of the opinion my money wasn't wasted. The opening track won't disappoint any fan of instrumental Parsons and Gilmour's guitar contributions were gladly recognisable. 'Mammagamma 04' wasn't quite as cheesey as I feared, but ok if you are concerned by cheap Ibiza style dance beats as the easy way to update a track (Mike Oldfield fans might understand what I mean!), then there is something in this criticism. But its still listenable. Of the songs, 'More Lost Without You' is quite catchy, and the other stand out track for me is 'Arc en Ciel' with Uberzone. If you like electronic music this is should satisfy. In conclusion, its not great but its OK, and worth buying for fans of Alan Parsons.
Bit of a cop-out
Prior to this release, I wouldn't have critised any of Alan Parson's albums. None could match the first (Tales of) of course, but all had something to enjoy, if his style of music appeals to you. But 'A valid path' is so disappointing, with less than 50 minutes of 'pleasant' songs that contain several rehashes of older tunes. Previously I've never hesitated to buy his albums without listening. Quality guaranteed! Until now.
Come on A.P.(P), you can do better!
