On CD at Long Last5
This special benefit concert has been available on video and DVD for many years, but has until now not been available on CD.

The show brought together three ex-Yardbirds, two Stones, a Who, two ex Faces and two ex-Blind Faiths, plus brilliant musicians like Simon Phillips and Fernando Saunders.

Despite the stellar cast and presumably large amounts of ego, the show hangs together really well and all concerned seem to play their hearts out to support the late Ronnie Lane and his appeal for specialised MS treatment facilities for London.

The sound is very good, if a little lacking in bass but at least you can hear everything, unlike either the video or DVD releases - Eric's guitar was almost inaudible on the DVD and the video had near-bootleg quality sound.

Highlights are many, although there are a couple of flat points such as the seemingly endless drum solo in 'Rita Mae', some obviously overdubbed guitar from Jimmy Page in one place and rather a lot of blues cliches in 'Ramblin on My Mind'. Page's numbers with Steve Winwood are great and Jimmy plays like his old self.

Steve Winwood is in fine voice, with a great version of 'Take Me to the River'; Jeff Beck is a genius as usual and Eric holds the show together, much like he did in Concert for George.

Highly recommended.
