About the Author
David G Präkel BSc Hons

Photographic educator and photographer

He was born and grew up in the North of England, studying Psychology at the University of Manchester. Given his first camera at age 9, photography played a major part in his life and in his career as a journalist and magazine editor. He has never lost his early enthusiasm for the medium.

In the ‘90s he authored a book on music and worked as a publishing consultant and trainer. A natural communicator, he spent a sabbatical year in America teaching photography in night class and youth programs. On returning to the UK he taught photography at all levels in colleges, schools and at the Kodak Imaging Training Centre in Harrow. He now runs his own photographic training workshops in Northumberland and is a part-time lecturer on the BA Hons Photography course at the Cumbria Institute of the Arts.

Enlightening and Rewarding5
This is a really interesting and enlightening read for photography beginners; although more advanced readers would likely still get a lot from its carefully written and well-presented content.

All major areas of composition and styles are covered with at least one excellent example image given to support the descriptions.

It's an intelligently written book that presents facts and ideas succintly, so time spent reading remains rewarding and effective.
