Football Betting to Win: Speculating on the Beautiful Game

"Before you have a bet, take a look at Jacques Black’s exceptionally helpful book, Football Betting to Win. It is a bit technical in places but is crammed with good advice that could save you lots of money on ill-conceived bets. Even betting masters such as me can find worthwhile tips in Black’s book, for example on Golden Boot – leading scorer – bets." - Michael Thompson-Noel, "How to Punt It", Financial Times, January 13th 2001

"From the author of two other acclaimed books on gambling, this fascinating new book covers all aspects of football betting from the pools to fixed odds and the burgeoning spread betting indexes. It offers tips and strategies for most markets. By using specific case studies like Euro 96 and England’s games in Euro 2000, Black manages to convey highly complex information in an easily comprehensible manner. This book can’t guarantee success, but studied properly it levels the playing field." - "Read of the Week", The Independent, February 24th 2001

"Considering its growing popularity, there are surprisingly few books on football betting, and this one looks set to be regarded as the definitive guide. With his usual meticulousness, Jacques has covered every aspect of football betting in great detail, with thorough analysis of fixed odds, spread betting and even the pools. As such, the book fulfils several functions: it’s a great source of reference, with details of useful websites and media sources; it’s totally comprehensive as a guide through the myriad range of football bets and, of course, it’s of massive benefit as a punting accessory. All in all, probably the best tenner you’ll spend this year." - Anna Charles, Odds On, February 2001

"The book leaves no aspect of football betting unexamined – fixed odds, spread betting, playing the pools, punting on football shares, and forecasting individual matches, to mention but a few. He has taken writing on football betting one stage further along a path that is not now as rocky. Certainly more than one fact emerged that leaves me shaking my head and muttering "wish I’d known that before." And that is praise indeed." - Philip Alexander, SMARTSig Confidential, March 2001

Customer Reviews

Very Poor Book Indeed in my opinion!1
I eagerly anticpated the delivery of this book only to come to the conclusion that it was utter rubbish when i began to read it!It briefly delves on the basics of betting and the author keeps going on about Euro 2000 which gets a bit tedious towards the end of the book. OVERALL VERDICT:Save your money and buy a better gambling book instead.

An enjoyable, entertaining and useful read5
I liked this book, as giving an excellent guide to all aspects of football betting, enlivened with anecdotes and case studies. If there is one theme that runs through it, it is the importance of approaching football betting in a scientific way, rather than relying just on hunches.
