The History Channel takes viewers in a thrilling, adrenaline pumping ride in this new, record breaking series. It's the most perilous road in the world, a strip of ice 350 miles long built on frozen lakes connecting mining outposts in Northern Canada with civilisation. 10,000 loads, some weighing as much as 19 tonnes, will travel over the ice in an urgent race to provide critical supplies to the camps before the road melts. Ice Road Truckers follows the competition and camaraderie of six truckers over a two month season on the ice road, as they brave white outs, thin ice and the deadly cold to perform one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. From the construction of this massive frozen highway to the risky final days when the road grows unreliable, Ice Road Truckers takes viewers on a thrilling ride.

Synopsis
The mines of northern Canada contain billions of dollars worth of gold and diamonds, but the only way to get supplies to those mines is a treacherous 350-mile-long road across frozen lakes--which don't always stay frozen. This electrifying documentary series dives into the dangerous, sometimes glorious, potentially fatal world of Ice Road Truckers--the men who, each season, drive their trucks across the temporary and tenuous ice roads that are constructed anew each year.
Customer Reviews
coolest job in the world ;)
Having seen this series on TV a while back, I made sure that I purchased it when it came out on DVD. I wasn't disapointed. The transfer to DVD hasn't dulled the experience. The scenery is still amazing, the job the truckers do is even more so.
It follows the lives of 6 truckers over the course of 2 months, delivering various loads to the 3 diamond mines. The job these people do is inspiring. OK, they do it for a shed load of cash, but even so, taking a 20 tonne truck with a 50 tonne load onto 3 feet of ice is awe inspiring in anyones language.
There is an addition not shown on Channel 5, where the truckers are round a table discussing their experience. This was an added bonus, and answers some questions that you had when watching the dvd, but to stretch it to 2 episodes, and miss out the episode of the history of the ice road (shown on TV) I thought was a missed opportunity.
Overall, a must for anyones DVD collection.
Enjoyable but a bit annoying too
A very entertaining, instructive, informative and enjoyable DVD collection, which once you start watching you'll want to carry on until the end.
But just a word of caution to the cleverer people out there. You may quickly get very annoyed at the constant exaggeration and over-emphasis of things, obviously done to try and capture an American audience I suspect. For example, a truck clipping a car's 'fender' becomes a 'crash', a few drops of diesel leaked are an 'ecological disaster', and, well, you get the idea. Also irritating is the constant 'repeating in summary' of events you have only just watched, with the same footage being shown over and over.
If you can ignore this or live with it though, you will most certainly enjoy watching the whole series about a completely different way of life and way of earning money on the ice road in just 60 days.
Didn't you always want to know how to drive on ice?
This series is very reasonably priced entertainment providing us with a great insight into the world of trucking on ice.
The series explains the fundamentals of the formation and maintenance of ice roads. It follows a few of the truckers on their travels to the diamond mines. The friendships and emotions are shared with the camera.
By the end of the series you feel you really know these guys and have a great appreciation for the job they do.
