Average customer review:Product Description
The definitive how-to manual for the most popular method of amateur boatbuilding.
Stitch-and-glue boatbuilding may be the most popular method of amateur boatbuilding today. In this method the home builder cuts out marine plywood panels to prescribed shapes, then puts them together with wire stitches long enough to glue and seal the seams with epoxy. Once the epoxy cures, the stitches are removed, and the result is a handsome, strong, watertight boat.
Stitch-and-Glue Boatbuilding lays out the basic building techniques; outlines the shortcuts and pitfalls; shows how to design your own boat or choose a plan to build from; how to select tools and materials; and how to paint, finish, and outfit the boat.

Your guide to the most popular method of amateur boatbuilding
Building a stitch-and-glue boat brings you as close as you’ll ever get to instant boatbuilding. It’s the fastest, easiest method yet devised for creating a strong, beautiful, seaworthy craft with your own hands. Now, one of the world’s premier stitch-and-glue designers, builders, and teachers gives you the information and guidance you need to build the boat of your dreams in your backyard, basement, or garage.
Chris Kulczycki explains why you don’t need to be a master craftsman with dozens of specialized tools to create a sleek, responsive small boat. He lays out the basic stitch-and-glue building techniques; outlines the shortcuts and pitfalls; and details the materials you’ll need. Then he guides you through each phase of the building process, from cutting plywood panels and stitching them together to gluing the seams with epoxy to fiberglassing, sanding, painting, finishing, and outfitting.

Stitch and glue inspiration
If your looking for inspiration for a stitch-and-glue project, look no further. The founder of Chesapeake Light Craft gives a great insight into the variety of crafts you can build using stitch-and-glue. Several kayaks, a sailing skiff, a rowing shell and a sailing rig with outriggers for kayaks are among the things you'll find here. Kulczycki even delves deep into the manufacturing of plywood, and shares a huge amount of knowledge and experience that will come in handy whatever you're going to build. The book conmtains downsized plans, but even the experienced builder might find it a challenge to build crafts from these. The plans do, however, offer some hint at what you're getting into if you've never built anything using stitch-and-glue. This book is a must for anyone who wants to explore the possibilities of stich-and-glue, and will be an inspiration to those who are allready experianced builders.
Build a seakayak
A fantastic book about "how to do it". I bought this book mainly for the plans but the instructions are great for both beginner and more experienced boat builder.
I am looking forward to making a fast touring seakayak for next year's trips.
The detail offered is more than adequate to make a good, attractive, seaworthy boat. Techniques for getting that wonderful depth of gloss and show the wood grain and pattern are very thorough.
Plenty of designs from 13ft to 18ft, single, double and even triple kayaks. Also a skiff and Oxford shell for the rower. Sailing rigs and outriggers are covered in good detail too.
If you fancy building your own boat get this great book.
