lofting by alan vaites
This is the book to read to understand lofting (drawing out the boat), if you want to save time later and increase your accuracy and pleasure when building your boat. It is easy to read, not a tomb, and shows you how to draw it accurately avoiding mistakes. Alan knows what he's talking about having lofted all the boats for Fairey (Swordsman) etc, and includes lofting powerboat hulls as well as sailboats. Not pretentious, just tells you straight how to go about it. This is a book for someone who actually is going to loft a boat. I disagree with previous reviewer who says its hard to read, in fact i'd say quite the opposite.

Not for the novice!
I was looking forward to reading and learning from this book. It is like so many books written by 'experts' they know what they are talking about, but they can't explain it clearly (in writing) to others. You need to know all about lofting to understand what he is talking about! Gougeon brothers do it much better.
