Author history and a few quick comments
Hi everyone! I'm glad to see that you're exploring this topic. Crystal Ball gazing isn't just about seeing the future, (although you can), but it's also about extending your perceptions beyond what is commonly thought of as "reality", extending your awareness past normal time and space considerations, along with increasing your awareness of who you are in your deepest self. When you are able to extend your consciousness in these ways, every moment in life can be very rich with meaning and experience. Crystal ball gazing is a very good way to be able to reach deep states of meditation very quickly. It also makes you highly intuitive and empathic. It can help you with your creative work and your thought processes. When I write or create, for example, and get stuck in a rut, I just drop what I'm thinking and look into the sphere. Suddenly instead of having my mind or feelings go in circles, I see something entirely new, and my thoughts and feelings can be freed to go in new directions. Anyway, it's wonderful to experience life in new ways and to experience ourselves in new ways.
In writing this book, I tried to make what can be an esoteric subject easily understandable. I put in lots of examples and ways that you can use this technique anywhere. Also, I wanted to let you know that you don't have to be afraid to try...almost everyone can do this. It only takes practice. There's lots of information about how to work with crystal balls in everyday situations, in relationships and in healing. You can also work with dreams and out-of-body travel. I also have a section in the book with other resources, like where to find crystal balls, where to find more information on color and sound and other related subjects, and some recommendations on guided meditations that can be used with your crystal ball and music that is good to "read" with or meditate with.
Just some information about me...I was one of a handful of people who introduced crystals to the mainstream in the late seventies and early eighties. I have been a meditator and yogini for the last thirty years. I have also studied with Native American and other indigenous shamans for over twenty years. I have learned about stones from many of these teachers. I am a pipeholder and am authorized to lead sweatlodges. I am also authorized to teach about stones, energetic healing, sound current and mantra yoga, kundalini yoga and several forms of meditation. I have three other books out: "The Complete Crystal Guidebook", pub. by Bantam, NY; "Enlightenment on the Run"; and a children's book called "Paul and Mary and Their Magic Crystals". My business and family responsibilities keep me real busy now. However, I have plans to in the next few months. I'm not working on a book now, (although I may start writing one on energetic healing).

An excellent book for the beginner
I have no hesitation in recommending "Crystal Ball Gazing" by Uma Silbey. I am completely new to scrying with a crystal ball and I had bought three other books before I found this one, but this one is definitely the best of the lot. Silbey writes in a very clear, straightforward and gentle style so the book is a very easy read, and it's full of brilliant nuggets and gems of information. She starts by giving a lovely history of the use of crystals in gazing and divination before moving on to the types of crystals and their uses. She gives a very helpful chapter on the different types of crystal balls and advice on how to go about choosing one. This book is a must buy for the novice and although much of what it contains may not be new to more proficient scryers, the author does give an extremely comprehensive list of the colours and images you may see in your ball, so for this reason alone it may be helpful to more advanced crystal gazers too.
