Mobile Internet might be the next eBay5
I got hold of a copy of this book from a friend who works at Vodafone, and who is running a "side business" selling pictures of trains & busses for mobiles.

It basically is a "cookbook" that steps you through how to make a WAP site - I hosted mine on geocities - and then configure it so that users visitin the site can pay you money when they download your files, pictures, whatever.

It gives marketing tips, but to be honest these are not the main idea of the book - its more how to make the cake and sell it rather than how to get lots of people coming to your cake stall.

I got my site (improve your health through vinegar) going last week, and I've already made back about £30 in revenue just by registering with the free Bango directory - so if I had bought the book it would have paid for itself.

Mr Smith's magic is to explain what to do in a way a mobile / WAP novice like me can follow - and it works!

I'd like a bit more on the ways to encode images and on handset differences etc., but the book has already passed on to its next owner who wants to build a "gamer's tips" site ....

It's easy to run your business on the mobile internet5
I've had a bit of success selling some games and picture downloads to mobile phones from my web site, but hadn't really figured out how to make it easy for people to get my games straight from their mobiles and making it really easy to pay.

This book is quite technical, but it's easy to understand at the same time for anyone who can build a web site. I've got most of the way through and my site is much better now.

I've got a hot review of my game ("Superfly") coming up in PC Gamer soon and I've got them to publish the mobile access code. I'm looking forward to getting a big sales rush from that review (assuming it's good!) based on what this book has helped me do.

Mobile is the way to go - I'm sold!

A great help IF you buy a service from the book's publisher3
This book does indeed provide good, clear explanations of how to set up your own wap site.

However, be aware that it is published by Bango Press, and that the code in many of the sections only works if you've paid for additional services from Bango.net (starting at round £10 a month, I believe)

The 3 star rating reflects the need to buy additional services. Otherwise, the book is great, and I've found Bango to be a good, helpful company to deal with in my mobile web ventures.
