A CD about all kinds of love
On Sept.16th,05 the CD 'We Are Not Islands' by The Celtic Tenors was released in Ireland and I did my best to get one right away. For I do know these three singers since 2002 and I am really delighted by their beautiful voices, their harmonies and the selection of their songs. They start with 'Non siamo Isole', Brian Kennedy being the lead-singer there and the Tenors doing a beautiful Italian chorus in this enchanting song; followed by 'Ten Thousand Tears'. This absolutely stunning song has the Humming-Chorus from Puccini's Madama Butterfly as backing music; Matthew Gilsenan and Niall Morris telling about an unhappy love-story in their singing and James Nelson doing a little Duet with Majella Cullagh in best Opera-tradition. Wow! 'Still By Your Side' adds the voice of Deirdre Shannon, Matthew's sister, making clear that loved ones, who have died, are still near. A gem follows: 'You Raise Me Up', this time Samantha Mumba's voice is added to the Tenor's singing and 'All Out Of Love' is done with Air Supply (back in the eighties, aren't we? tremendous!) 'Angel of Mercy' is dedicated to a little fan who hat to leave this earth far to early, here again Deirdre adds her touch. Another highlight is the beautiful 'Caruso'(Lucio Dalla) sung by Niall; 'Deep In Your Heart' - the Liam Lawton song -is next and it sets you thinking and the next one does so even more, it is 'Eric's Song' (he was a prisoner on death-row and James did put his poem into music and sings it). Now 'Bright Blue Rose' follows and it is one of the songs that moved me most. And an absolutely friendly 'Here, There, Everywhere' follows, I love that Beatle's Song! 'I Will Never Let You Go' sung by Matthew is absolutely lovely. And then... 'TV-Wars', unlike anything I heard them sing before - somehow it shows the range of what they can do.
Three different singers united in their beautiful Celtic-Tenor-Sound, wonderful music and loevly lyrics, you only have to listen...
celtic tenors- wow.
at first i listened to this cd and thought "what on earth are they doing!" i didn't really like it because it's so different to their other cd's but after a while i realised that i absolutely love this cd! there's a wonderful mix of songs that help introduce the listener to a large selection of music but still stays within their own style. 'all out of love' with air supply to madame butterflys humming chorus to songs written by their very own james nelson-its a wonderful collection and i would thoroughly reccommend it to fans of, well anything! theres something for everyone!
