Review
The Match of My Life series provides a captivating collection of first-person accounts by former footballers of their careers and in particular the most memorable match they played in. There are archive pictures and statistics on each player before the players entertain us with anecdotes and memories of classic matches. The Fulham edition, edited by Michael Heatley, includes recollections from twelve club legends such as George Cohen, Gordon Davies, Lee Clark, Sean Davis and Simon Morgan. With a foreword by Johnny Haynes this is another worthwhile read from the Know The Score stable. --Nathan Davies, The Association of Football Statisticians.

Magic memories
Given that this book came out during the week after Johnny Haynes' death, it couldn't be a more apt tribute to Fulham's greatest player. Johnny wrote the foreword for this book which features 12 former players selecting their best ever game in a Fulham shirt and describing it in fascinating detail.
Haynes' old mucker, Tosh Chamberlain, relives a 4-5 defeat by mighty Newcastle in 1956 and recalls how Johnny used to tell him off for having a chat with the fans rather than haring down the wing to receive a pass.
More recently Simon Morgan remembers defeating Premiership leaders Aston Villa in the FA Cup when Fulham were a Second Division side, a particularly sweet victory for Morgs as he is actually a Birmingham fan and loves to see the Villa suffer.
Lee Clark and Sean Davis both recall important victories. Davis' game is a 2-1 win over Blackburn, which effectively clinched promotion to the Premiership and was inspired by the comments of opposing manager Graeme Souness who laid into the team in the press before tha game and got what he deserved as all he succeeded in doing was winding the Fulham side up. Clark's is a 3-1 win at Man Utd, notable for him scoring the opening goal.
And, classic Fulham, the biggest day in the club's history, the 1975 FA Cup Final, is relived by Les Strong a player who was injured and did not actually play despite the fact that his name appeared in the programme.
This book is full of humour and great remembrances. Not least of Johnny Haynes, a giant of the game. We will miss him. Every Fulham fan should own it.
