Review of Smart Heart4
Hidden behind the cutesy graphics and simplistic maths (how many times do we need to know that 70% 0f 200 is 140?) lies a very informative guide to heart zone training. Sally Edwards addresses this increasingly popular aspect of fitness training in an easy manner which belies her authority on the subject. I feel she does tend to overlook one of the most popular excercise machines, the indoor rower, which combines comprehensive performance monitoring, including heart rate monitoring on the latest models, with non impact excercise, but otherwise I found this a very useful and well written guide. A bit pricey perhaps but arguably worth paying a little extra for.

A must read5
I agree with the first review, some of the graphics and maths are unhelpful and would add that the whole tone of the book is too conversational / longwinded / informal (I can't quite put my finger on what I didn't like but it's a bit like reading a self-help book when you don't feel you need one!).

That said, it would be uncharitable to give this anything less than five out of five, The book is probably unique and anybody engaged in any level of physical activity would benefit from reading it. I've been training at a variety of sports for almost 25 years and in the last week of changed so many unhelpful training habits thanks to this book: For example I feel I've stopped damaging myself and started shifting that last bit of fat that I've never been able to move previously. Sally's never going to win the Booker Prize for literature but this book is a monumental contribution to sports knowledge at every level of participation.

The best heart rate training book I have ever read!5
As a fitness professional for 10 years, I have tried to find a book that explains heart rate training as thoroughly and as understandable as this book. I have 10 fitness instructors who work for me and this book is a required book. The descriptions are informative and easy to read and more importantly, easy to understand.

I just wish the book was easier to find!
