Manufacturer's Description
Gaggia is the best known Italian manufacturer of coffee machines for professional and household use and its name is synonymous with tradition and reliability the world over. The company was set up in 1947 by Achille Gaggia, the man to whom we are indebted for the success of espresso coffee all over the world. It was he who on September 5th 1938 filed a patent no 365726 with which modern steam-free coffee machines may be said to have been born. In 1977 Gaggia began producing coffee machines for the home, launching the Baby Gaggia, which to this day is considered to be the ideal family coffee maker. The designs and technological advances have changed the way the machines look and work but the objective of quality, reliability and the passion for the right espresso everytime has remained throughout Gaggia's history and this is what makes Gaggia legendary.

Gaggia's traditional quality and experience in espresso making joins forces with the advanced technology of the Caffitaly system. The ideal amount (8g) of ground coffee is vacuum sealed in each disposable, ready to use capsule for a great cup of genuine Italian espresso. The Caffitaly capsule is structured specifically to allow the water to fully irrigate each tiny grain of coffee, thus guaranteeing a constant even flow of coffee and above all a consistently excellent brew in the cup.

    Poor build quality1
Great coffee while it works, but this is, in my case, just under 5 months. Build quality is very poor. The tray that holds the capsule has twice broken and been replaced, and now the thing just shoots scalding water at high pressure out of the sides. Plus the capsules have recently been in short supply and difficult to source. Have learned my (expensive) lesson and will buy a machine that uses ground coffee rather than capsules.

    Excellent coffee Machine5
I purchased this as a Christmas present for my husband. We already have a classic Gaggia and have been very pleased with it. This machine was for a second home so the idea of using capsules rather than ground coffee, which doesn't store so well, appealed. Also I wasn't keen to use a system that relied on internet purchase of capsules from one source (ie Nespresso)
So far we have been really pleased with it. It is simple to use, very compact, easy to clean and we have tried all of the different types of capsules and have liked them all (easy to purchase from our local Whittards for £6.50 for 3 boxes)I did have a few reservations regarding a capsule system but have been very pleasantly surprised. Would definitely recommend this machine and capsule system.
