Editorial Reviews

Tony Juniper, Executive Director Friends of the Earth
A passionate celebration of the biodiversity and wildlife on our doorsteps. Perfect for gardeners who love a good yarn.

Organic Gardening magazine
This is a magical book. The more people touched by this book, the more hope there is for endangered species.

From the Publisher
This book is about gardens and gardening at night-time. If you want to enjoy your plot in the evening, after work, when you've got the time to relax, then this is the book for you. You'll find out what to plant and where in order to make your garden look and smell good by moon and candle light. You'll also find out about some of the creatures that come alive and help your garden grow after twilight.

But this isn't any ordinary gardening book. Though it's packed full of information and practical advice, it's also a story of the moth collector and his garden discoveries after dark. His is a touching story, as much about finding out why we enjoy our gardens so much as about our environment and the diversity of life now threatened by climate change.

Read it and be inspired to take a fresh look at your garden.

Customer Reviews

Fantastically Low Tech5
I love this book. Shepherd shares his passion for biodiversity and his experiences of gardening for the night with wonderful intimacy. First we get to eavesdrop on a conversation he has with a woman which meanders from moths to monkeys and back again. Then we get snippets of his 'memory book' diary. We learn about what plants are good for the night time garden, how to build a pond and that Shepherd is an old romantic who likes kissing in hammocks. This book feels great too, it's published by the Centre for Alternative Technology on Cyclus 100% post consumer waste paper which helps give it that feel of reading someone's notebook. Buy this book - it will make you want to be in your garden at night. Magic.
