DVD Description
You too can join the dark side on when [adult swim], the people behind the Emmy Award-winning stop-motion animated show Robot Chicken, will be releasing Robot Chicken: Star Wars on DVD for the very first time in the UK.
[adult swim] have turned the Star Wars universe on it’s head and given the legendary struggle between intergalactic good vs. evil a unique make-over in this extended episode which is jam-packed with unforgettable moments parodying all 6 films. Robot Chicken: Star Wars boasts an all-star voice cast including Star Wars creator himself, George Lucas plus Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane, Breckin Meyer, Donald Faison, Hulk Hogan and James Van Der Beek.
The story begins not long ago, in a galaxy not far enough away where we see Emperor Palpatine receive a reverse charge call from the Dark Lord announcing the destruction of the Death Star, watch the droids have trouble getting through airport security and see Admiral Akbar selling out in an advert for his own breakfast cereal. If that wasn’t enough to wet your appetite, George Lucas gets saved from a mob of nerds at a Star Wars convention, Luke and the Emperor settle things with a "yo mama" fight and there’s even a new unforgettable addition to the Star Wars franchise with "Empire on Ice" … and that’s just a snippet of the 35 sketches featured!

Synopsis
The warped minds at Adult Swim's ROBOT CHICKEN take their demented sensibility to the holy grail of sci-fi epics, STAR WARS, in this hilarious special. Jaws will drop as Luke Skywalker and Emperor Palpatine trade 'yo mama' jokes, George W. Bush and Abraham Lincoln battle it out with lightsabers, and Darth Vader sobs on the telephone. But the show really hits its stride when riffing on the franchise's supporting characters, including bug-eyed Admiral Akbar (promoting a delicious breakfast cereal), the rowdy barflies at the Mos Eisley Cantina (a couple of architects out for a tragic after-work drink), and of course Jar Jar Binks. As usual, a cast of celebrities lend their voices to the animated antics--including Hulk Hogan, Conan O'Brien, and James Van Der Beek--with even George Lucas getting in on the action for his flannel-clad counterpart.

Short but sweet
I had heard a lot about this so was really pleased when this was released. A different parody to Blue Harvest, more like out-takes and behind the scenes hidden camera type of show. Some excellent sketches including Admiral Akbar cereal. Main issue I had was the length..... I has assumed that this was an extended episode like Blue Harvest, but in fact it was only around 20 minutes with the rest of the DVD taken up with unrelated episodes and extras, so for that reason only 4 stars for me.
Short and then very inessential
They talk about it being 2.5 hours, but bear in mind that you'll be seeing only one 25 minute show of admittedly very fun Star Wars parody. The rest comprises extras like deleted scenes and voice overs, and unrelated extra episodes which have so many strictly US pop cultural references and require so much in-depth knowledge of comic books they could have been about ostrich farming in the Carpathians, as far as I was concerned.
THE WAIT IS OVER
Finally someone has had the sense to release Adult Swim DVDs in the UK. I've seen this episode already and I really recommend buying it and forcing your friends and family to borrow it (Actually I've heard a rumour it's got limited edition packaging, if so - best to tell them to get their own in case they ruin yours!). I can't wait to see what extras it has. This is an absolute must for any lover of Star Wars. Personally I think it's much funnier and cleverer than Family Guy's Blue Harvest. Buy it now and you can proudly tell people you jumped on the wagon before it became a bandwagon!
