Product Description

Arm yourself! The 20 year wait is over as Bionic Commando swings back into action! The first true sequel to the classic 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System original, Bionic Commando sees the return of the bionically-enhanced Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer. Time has not been kind to Spencer: five years after his heroic defeat of the Imperials, he has been betrayed by the government he swore to serve, imprisoned for crimes he didn't commit, and sentenced to death.

On the very day of Spencer's execution, terrorists detonate a massive experimental weapon in Ascension City, unleashing an intense earthquake that has turned the city into rubble and wiped out its population. With the terrain in ruins and the city's air defense grid now in the control of a massive terrorist force whose goal remains unclear, the FSA have only one option left - a behind-the-lines assault.

It's the perfect job for a Bionic Commando!

  • Use the bionic arm to swing between towering skyscrapers at breathtaking speed, hook onto distant objects, zip up on hanging girders and choose your own route through the game
  • Gameplay that moves through horizontal and vertical environments - a 3D game that truly uses all three dimensions
  • Full multiplayer mode with rich stat-tracking to check whether you're a true commando or a lowly private
  • Use the power of the bionic arm - and of next-gen physics - to realistically throw massive objects, pummel opponents, whip enemies into the air, or pull the landscape apart
  • Arm yourself with a variety of weapons worthy of a Bionic Commando
  • Starring Mike Patton, the former lead singer of Faith No More, as the voice of Nathan Spencer

WOW kinda fun!4
when i first started to play this i didnt realy like it that much, mainly coz i didnt have most of the abilitys. all i had was a small handgun, but now im quite far into the game and its so much better! now i can pick up enemies and throw them at each other and throw rocks, barrles and crates too.

so yeah short and sweet, get it. u might hate it at first, but trust me, it gets better!

Cheap as chips - get one of these!5
I've been an FPS fan for as long as they've been about, and I bought this when it first came out (following on from some pretty decent reviews). It's a lot of fun, and I don't buy into this stuff that it's not like this or that - it's fun, and at times very silly. But, it's mainly a great romp. There are the usual odd bits and pieces where the weapons seem a little inappropriate, but from start to finish I enjoyed it. Great fun. Don't need to be too anal about any of this; we do it for fun, and some of the in-game commentary is worth the entrance price.

Mostly as a side issue; the price of this makes it a steal. Get one, and tell me you didn't grin an awful lot some of the time.

Bionic Commando2
Bionic Commando as some will already know is pegged as the sequel to the popular NES title of the same name. Not much has changed in formula, you play as Nathan "Rad" Spencer, the original games protagonist and you still swing around with a bionic arm and shoot things. The games plot follows on several years from the original game and has a loose back story established by a comic prequel on the official site, however it's definately not nessicary for you to have read it to get what's going on here.

In a nut shell, a WMD of some description has been set off in Ascension city and those claiming responsibility are a rebel movement known as BioReign. Frankly it all comes accross as pointless really, several plot points are roughly jammed inbetween the embarassingly awful dialogue between Rad and his support characters who all talk like wood chippers full of rocks and sound about as intelligent.

The game is brought to us by developer Grin studios who were also responsible for the critically acclaimed Bionic Commando ReArmed, available on the 360 marketplace and PS3 online store. Carried over between the titles is the sense of respect for the source material and keen intent to create something loyal and a definate fan favourite, which works all well and good so long as you bare in mind that there was never much substance to begin with and not much has changed.

Gameplay is broken up into sections of evironments generaly devided by tunnels or caves which are all very beutifuly made but somewhat frustratingly short especially when the load times between are border line criminal. Combat is over the shoulder gun play mixed with more dynamic inclusion of your bionic arm which can be used to execute a number of advanced techniques as you learn them which keeps things fresh and interesting. Of course most importantly your arm is used to traverse your way through bombed out ascension city and other lush areas, however the swing mechanic is a tad artificial, theres no physics here to speak of just a default swing speed and the main challenge being timing jumps from swings and quickly identifyuing viable swing points helpfully indicated by a green reticule.

On the whole I found the game fun but frustrating in a number of ways but nothing was ever a deal breaker, I played it through the once and then started it on the harder difficulty which was more annoyingly cheap than challenging but thats more a reflection on me than anything.

Also worth a mention is the games multiplyer which though short on game types is a lot of fun if you are prepared to sit down and get to grips with it despite an initial learning curve.

(first review, sorry if it was a little long)
