Brilliant photos even in low light
There’s no need now to be held back by low-light conditions, like dusk or dimly lit interiors. The WX1 will capture the moment in sharp detail thanks to its super-sensitive 10.2 megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS sensor. Developed exclusively by Sony, it works by reducing noise on the sensor itself. The result is crisp, clean images even in low-light conditions where other cameras struggle. This combines with a high sensitivity setting of ISO 3200 so you can snap away without the need of a flash.

High speed shooting
The camera also includes two low-light shooting modes, Handheld Twilight and Anti Motion Blur, which automatically take six frames at high speed and superimpose them into one optimised shot with reduced blur and image noise, producing crisp images even in reduced light.

Press the shutter and the Exmor R™ CMOS sensor, working with the BIONZ image processor, enables you to shoot at an incredible 10 frames per second at full 10.2 megapixel resolution. The kick of a ball, a bird in flight: every move caught in crisp detail.

Focusing on quality images
The precision–engineered G Lens by Sony has a massive shooting range, from 24mm wide angle to a generous 5x optical zoom. At this focal range, you’ll be able to squeeze even more into amazing landscapes and people-packed scenes or pull distant views into sharp focus. And because the zoom is optical, rather than digital, that focus will be perfectly precise because the lens physically moves to bring the subject closer instead of artificially enlarging a section of the picture.

An extra-bright maximum aperture of f/2.4 expands shooting possibilities, allowing more light in than other compact camera lenses to capture better-looking photos in dimly lit situations. Inside the WX1’s compact, stylish exterior lies a further innovative technology that will transform your memories of a breathtaking landscape or a buzzing city scene. The WX1 joins the HX1 and TX1 in being the world’s first digital still cameras with Sweep Panorama. Press the shutter, sweep the camera horizontally or vertically and you’ll get one dramatic panoramic shot. This new shooting mode captures up to 100 images at 10 frames per second then seamlessly stitches together only the best parts of the pictures to create the ultimate extra-wide, high-resolution image in less than one second.

Choosing the right settings
Taking great pictures doesn’t have to be complicated. The WX1 is equipped with a number of smart features to take the guesswork out of matching your camera settings to your chosen subject. Ultra-fast autofocus delivers clear, sharp images and a more responsive shooting performance. Select Intelligent Auto mode and the camera will automatically recognise eight commonly-encountered scenes and adjust settings to ensure well-exposed results wherever and whenever you shoot.

How many times have you missed that perfect moment with friends and family? The WX1 also comes with Smile Shutter, which automatically fires the shutter when somebody smiles, and Enhanced Face Detection which recognises up to eight people in each scene, automatically adjusting focus, exposure, white balance and flash settings for great results.

The big screen
Spin the camera round and you’ve got a large 2.7" Clear Photo LCD touchscreen. At this size, you’ll find framing as well as playback are that bit easier. Press Menu and it’ll help you pick the right settings with clear icons and menus. In playback, its higher resolution and increased contrasts mean viewing and editing pictures is easier than ever. And because of its size, it’s big enough to be viewed by more than one person, so you can share the fun.

Easy sharing and quality viewing
Managing your growing photo collection is hugely simplified by PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software included with the WX1. Just install it on your PC and it provides a perfect archive for your shots which are all just a click or two away. You can arrange them by date, by person, and search through them quickly. From here you can burn them to disc, send them to friends or upload them to sites in a matter of seconds. If you connect your WX1 or computer directly to an HD Ready TV you can view your shots in spectacular HD on the big screen. If your TV is a BRAVIA which supports PhotoTV HD, you’ll be able to experience even more lifelike HD images, bursting with detail and colours.

Get in the picture with Party-shot™
As an optional extra you can add Party-shot™, a moveable docking base that automatically rotates, tilts and zooms the camera, using Face Detection to recognise and track people in the room. It’s perfect for when you’re having an amazing time with friends and family and you want to be in the photos too. WOW
I agonized over all the different makes of point and shoot cameras. All I have wanted for years is a camera that would take a great picture in low-light without blurring furiously!

I have just got this camera, and WOW, I am so impressed. I took a photo of my husband and son playing games in the living room which is a dark room with a dim corner light. I took the same photo with an older Sony and an Olympus and this camera blew them out of the water! I am so impressed.

I read mixed reviews on amazon.com, I have not taken it outside yet, so cant comment on its effectiveness but its truly awesome in a dark room!

All I wanted was a camera I could take photos of my family and friends in restaurants and dark rooms without a flash and without it blurring - And it so far seems to be brilliant.

Now if they put a 15X zoom like the Panasonic on it and made it waterproof like the Olympus - It would be the best camera EVER!

Sony WX1
After reading many reviews online about the W210 Sony and the Ixus 990 Canon, I went out on a limb to buy this little guy. I must admit that there is no part of me that has any regret!! The quality of the camera is good, the quality of the pictures taken are even better. Good face recognition when trying to take shots of the kids which is not always so easy.

The camera is light too and really small, dont expect it to take up much space or weigh you down!! I was a bit worried about it having only 10mp unlike the W210 with 12mp but im sure most people wont notice the difference.
