NOT a Jump on the Spain Bandwagon...
For everyone who lives, spend time in Spain, or even a curious traveller this book is a must! It's an original, real view of the language and customs of the country and an insight into the real Spanish culture, the people and how the language is used... done in such a way that it's funny without being patronizing, historically interesting without being dry and written from a foreigner's point of view with anecdotes of their experiences, with a real love of the country. As a foreigner living in Spain myself I could identify with all the linguistic bungles that the authors had made and laughed and learned my way from A-Z!!
Funny & Informative... A great read, too!
A good read even if you're not straddling that deep chasm between speaking a foreign language (or trying to) and being understood. Valerie Collins and Theresa O'Shea make the whole thing fun, which is just what we need. Wish I'd had this book when I was trying to furnish my Barcelona apartment, or order pumpkin pie (I won't even tell you how I wound up with a large beer instead). Don't go to Spain without this book. And if you're a language mangler like me, carry it with you at all times. Felicitaciones! Valerie and Theresa.
Gold mine of info and laughter - highly recommended!
If you're looking for a book about Spain that is the perfect combination of funny and informative, here's the one! I enjoyed it immensely, and will be referring to it over and over again in the future. Even if you don't live in Spain and don't intend to, if you are at all interested in the country you will find plenty of material here to keep you reading on. The authors obviously know what they're talking about, and we readers can reap the benefit of their years of experience. If you are going to read only one book about Spain, this one should be it!
