Editorial Reviews

CD Description
It is 14 years since Bruce released his original Greatest Hits and in that time it has sold almost 1 million copies in the UK alone. This new hits package concentrates on his classic work with the E Street Band and brings his career up to date, including four tracks recorded since that 1995 best of.

Customer Reviews

Why bother?3
This compilation adds little to previous efforts and is just a lazy attempt by Sony to cash in on the latest tour. Concentrates on E Street band releases to differentiate it from other collections. The two live tracks have been tacked on to tempt the dedicated fan but are not worth buying this CD for. Better for the casual fan to buy " The Essential..." if they want an introduction to the Boss.

'Bonus' tracks2
Like many compilations, this is a product of a marketing department and not the work of someone who actually cares about music. Why else would the final 2 tracks be designated as bonuses? That would imply that this album was originally issued without them - and that they have been included especially for this edition (wow, we're so grateful) ... well sorry, Sony, I ain't that stooopid. Nevertheless, congratulations on the cover. Next time, however, think about the music. Just a tip from someone outside 'the biz'.

A missed opportunity4
I have been a Springsteen fan since the 70's and have just about every official album he's released. And whilst there are undeniable classics within this collection (Thunder Road, Born to Run, Hungry Heart, Rosalita etc.), there are equally as many classics missing (Jungleland, Racing In The Streets, Streets of Philadelphia, Ties That Bind, Bobby Jean etc.). The 4 stars given reflect the quality of those classics included which have stood the test of time and rank amongst rocks best. As for the rest... And where are the tracks from the 'Tunnel Of Love' album or the 'Seeger Sessions'? What a missed opportunity. A 2 CD set with greater breadth and depth would have been better. If you want to buy just one Springsteen album, make it 'The Essential Bruce Springsteen', or even the original 'Greatest Hits' album, both are stronger album than this compilation.
